*** OFFICIAL 2022 **** IOWA THREAD ***

I thought the moment caught by the TV camera when Brian Ferentz put his arm around Petras giving him valuable coaching advice during their game against South Dakota was priceless.

How to beat Iowa 101:
  1. Limit your own mistakes
  2. Limit special teams errors
  3. Quick passing game.
  4. Put receivers 1 on 1 versus LB's and corners.
    1. Jack Campbell and Seth Benson on Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel versus Riley Moss
  5. Throw to the edge and seems (That is the holes in their cover 2 zone)

6. Have more than a scripted set of plays for the first possession so you don't look clueless for 3.5 quarters like in 2018 when the opponent makes pretty simple adjustments.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beast of the earth, and $%^& Iowa.

Going heavy personnel has worked in the Big 12. However, Kirk has been running and recruiting to that style for 2 decades. You can't beat Iowa going 3 yards and a cloud of dust without far superior talent.

Spread them out and limit mistakes

You don't need far superior talent, you just can't screw things up like ISU has.

That said, if your strength is spreading the ball out, that's what you do.

Imagine what the outcome would have been last year if Purdy hits X in stride in the 2nd quarter instead of throwing a dead duck that was 2 seconds late..

I think that was the play with the PI that wasn't called against the Iowa corner who grabbed X by the pants when he knew he was beat.

Had he not grabbed X I think Purdy hits him in stride and yeah.........maybe different outcome.

It was a BAD missed PI. Also underthrown/late by 10+ yards

I think the timing of the route was thrown WAY off by the grab and hold.

That is why Nerdstreit was giggling about the grab and Purdy pumping. He was expecting separation about the time of the grab, and when it didn't happen, he pumped....and then waited too late.

That's 7 if he doesn't hold and who knows the outcome.

How many minutes will we be banging our head against the wall trying to get a run game going and throwing the flat swing passes?

literally all Tom Manning needs to do is watch Purdue's tapes against Iowa every year the last 5 years and use that strategy
