***Official 2021 Vikings***

I wouldn't call KAM sloppy seconds. They had 2 finalists and honestly, if I was leaning towards one or the other, I'd interview my #1 second. No proof he was their #1 choice, but there is no reason to think he wasn't their #1 choice.
Beat me to it. I guess some people just aren't happy unless they can find something to be unhappy about. Which of the coaches that have been hired so far have the Vikings missed out on? Daboll maybe? Beyond that it's been Eberflus, McDaniels, and Hackett.

I'm not seeing where Minnesota is scraping the bottom of the barrel compared to those hires.

How is the GM hire sloppy seconds? They targeted two guys for second interviews and they got one of them, and he seems like a good one.
I was being facetious, but they did miss out on the now-Bears GM. That said, I like the KAM hire regardless. Vikings factually are taking their HC hiring slower than other teams, but that's part of the gig when hiring a new GM at the same time. Their candidates and interviews have been really good so far and I'm optimistic about it.

As it pertains solely to Harbaugh, as I said before, I'm conflicted about that. I tend to agree with @NetflixAndClone above that it would either be awesome or utter trash, which I suppose in some ways is actually better than mediocre purgatory. Easier to make rash decisions when it's all or nothing. I have a little concern with how long he's been out of the NFL game, but who knows what he would come back with. It's definitely a different NFL from when he was last in it, though.

That's fair.

Daboll, Hackett and Eberflus wouldn't have made me happy.

I'd have been okay with McDaniel. He tried to be a Belichek clone at Denver and might now know that he needs to be his own man.

That said, McDAniels wasn't my top choice. I'd be happy with any of the 4 guys they have as the supposed finalists, but my choices in order would be O'Connell, Harbaugh, Ryans and Morris.

I'm O'Connell first and then probably Ryans. I don't particularly like Harbaugh, but I get why they're interested and would be fine if that's the way they end up going

The didn't miss out on Poles. No one knows if he was the Vikings first choice or not, and they only way they would have gotten him was if they paniced and refused to have a second interview with KAM.

The last thing I want the Vikings to do it say "OMG, the same franchise that hired Ryan Pace as their GM is going to hire Ryan Poles. We better offer him the job now even though we're not sure he is the best choice."

That's fair.
I really do dig the KAM hire though. From what I can tell, he's a fresh mind that's numbers and analytics focused, putting all of that into cap management. It'll take some time to see the results of that, but I'm excited for the prospect after a few years of cap-hellish finagling around the team.

I'm still on the side of not hiring a DC as head coach again, but I could live with it. As with any HC, assistants make the plan succeed. The right hires in the right places makes a bigger difference.

Poles has a solid track record up to this point, his resume stands pretty tall. I don't see it a stretch to say he's as much or better of a good GM candidate than KAM is on paper alone.

Now, will that resume last past the Bears, that's a separate issue.

I love having a defense that can impose their will on another team. All the great Qb's out there struggle against good defenses.

As bad as KC played yesterday, if they had even a halfway decent defense, they would be playing in the Superbowl in 2 weeks.

I'm happy Daboll and Hackett are gone so we can't. Wasn't excited about either.
