I think this just shows that the the umpires just flip a coin in their head on these calls.
I umped HS baseball for two years and even at that level it’s a tough call. I actually had a similar situation in a JV game where a kid pretty clearly swung but plate umpire appealed to me and I said he didn’t go cause it would’ve ended the game. Both coaches thanked me afterwards for not letting it end on that.

I umped for 10 years in Iowa. Have sense hung it up as I just don't have the time in the summers anymore. It would of been interesting if that same situation would of happened in a varsity game. That's absolutely the right call in a JV game but VAR can be a different animal. What I always thought was funny in situations like that with a check swing, when there are runners on and the coach of the team in the field goes berserk and wants an appeal to the field umpire. But in that situation the field umpire is out in the FIELD and not down the first baseline so is in a terrible position to reverse that call to a swing. My buddy I umped with a few times in that situation got all dramatic in his "No Swing" call just to be a smart ass because he was never going to reverse the call if I didn't call it a swing behind the plate.

Red Sox with 2 Grand Slams (first team to do that in same game).

Astros pitching was a bit shaky as it was but now without McCullers I don't see them winning this series.

Lots of whistling going on when the Asstros are batting, especially Altuve. Seems like a pretty good amount of Braves fans in the crowd also.

Rooting for the Braves.

McCullers (HOU) pitched out of his mind against my White Sox….. so of course he’s been out since the ALDS.
