This is an idiotic rule. Rays got screwed on this:Maybe time for a less quirky, standard-size RF wall at Fenway?

Green giant is left fieldAre you serious? What a dumb post if you are serious.
I know just don't like how the Rays got punished because Renfroe doesn't know how to play a ball off the wall and it bounces off him and goes over the fence. They certainly would’ve scored but it’s the same rule in any ballpark.

Sure. If that wall is costing runs in the playoffs, that wall is a problem.
Can't have the precedent that bad defense takes runs off the board like that.
Just stop. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? That field has been the same for over 100 years. What about the Ivey at Wrigley? What about the catwalks at a Tropicana? What about all the foul territory in Oakland? How about the extremely short porch in right at yankee stadium? You see where I’m going with this? The stadiums are what the are, both teams play the same field, and they aren’t going to change it because of some fluky occurrence like this.
Sure. Do some standardization. That's not a bad thing.
It is a dumb thing. Baseball is what it is. Ballparks are different, within the rules, and it’s fair for both teams. They each have the same advantages and disadvantages when the game is played. Not going to change.
Meh. It wouldn't hurt a thing to create some fair standards across the league.
Parks constructed after 1958 are 325 minimum to right and left and 400 to center. There have been some exceptions to this rule but that is the general guideline. Not sure why this bugs you that much. It’s not like the players don’t know the fields they are playing on. Equal to each player every game. Fair isn’t it?
Apparently not fair, if you can lose a run due to poor defense.
I enjoy your little "nothing can change because the quirkiness is cute" rager going here.
We found a spot in the rules that doesn't work. When you find them, you fix them and move on. It's pretty simple.
This. Changing the fields and standardization is stupid. But that rule absolutely needs fixed.I enjoy diversity of the fields....it's the ground rule double rule that needs to be changed. If it is hit so hard and bounces over the fence on it's own, thus allowing the defense no chance....then yeah...the rules as stated are fair. If it bounces off the fence, hits the defender and bounces back OVER the fence......then there needs to be some allowance for the offense i.e. triple instead of double.
