***Official 2020-2021 Transfer Thread***

Totally get and would agree but I doubt ISU would "make room" for a transfer at this point.

I could see the scenario with team workouts a month in, a current player may feel differently about their role and potential minutes. They may decide they may need a fresh start elsewhere. Staff may be aware of the possibility and makes sense to be prepared. Especially if TJ feel this team is closer than expected to the tourney and Obanor would tip the scales.
Yeah I think you bring him in even if it causes some waves at this point. Big time get if there is truly some smoke here.

Yep! Completely agree. No idea what happens or if we’re even “in” on him. This follow could mean nothing. Or it does mean something, who knows. What I do know, and everyone here agrees, is that this guy certainly moves the needle for us next year and the following year should he stay.

Complete hypothetical. With NIL now allowed, could a senior (or any member for this point) member on a team realized they can make enough money from NIL and give up there scholarship for a high-level transfer? Would that be against any NIL rules?

I mean, Jameel McKay paid* to attend ISU for a semester since there wasn’t a scholarship for him. There are ways.

*I don’t know of any rules that were broken, but I also lack a certain naivety when it comes to “amateur” athletics.

"Kalscheur — a graduate transfer who started 88 games as a Golden Gopher — turned 22 last month.

Brockington — a graduate transfer who started his career at St. Bonaventure — turns 22 on July 12."

I knew Brockington had graduated; but has Kalscheur?

Plus...

"And both are gifted players with a lot to prove in their last college hoops season — and first in Ames."

I thought they both had two more years left assuming they wanted them?

And I thought Kalscheur definitely did.

CW and Stanz have loosely said Gabe is viewed as a possibility for a super-senior COVID year. Brockington has made it known he wants to play pro ball. But things change

Yeah, I suppose nobody knows for sure -- the two of them included -- what they might want to do next spring. Their opinion and options could completely change during the season.

I still wonder if Kalscheur graduated from Minnesota, though. I thought Brockington and Kunc were the two graduate transfers we were bringing in, though the distinction matters little now.

It would be nice to have one or the both of them another year... give Lipsey and King an understudy year behind them, and might be a pretty competitive team with those two playing at 23 years old and Hunter and Foster playing their sophomore years. But we have young guards coming to replace them.

Didn't know where else to put this, so plopping it here. Did we ever get clarification whether Caleb Grill would in fact be eligible immediately since he had a previous transfer waiver?
