***Official 2020-2021 Transfer Thread***

I'm not as concerned about taking talent that may only be here a year. With transfers being immediately available, you can reload quicker as long as you have some pieces that stick around for continuity.

I think you grab the best options that work for your plan and figure out the scholarship situation as you go along. Being able to refill rosters on the fly is going to need to be a strength of a good coach.

I wonder if Texas is going to stick with Shaka? If not, their recruiting class has two guys I could see the new staff targeting, Ellis and Joplin.

I watched a fair amount of UNC as I have a son attending there. Kessler did not show as advertised, but he certainly has talent. He had no business playing in front of Sharpe, who's a beast and should be a nice pro player (he should have started), or Bacot. But, maybe he could have taken more time from Brooks. Probably will improve a lot in the next year.

Btw, my son tells me there are rumors of several UNC starters transferring out. I'd take Bacot in a heartbeat - nice blue-collar player, hits the boards hard, not a star. Wouldn't bother with the PG, Love, as he can't shoot and is loose w/ the ball (t/o's) - was way overrated. The Hopkins, MN kid we recruited, Walton, was one of the keys to their turnaround, as he can actually shoot, which was a novel thing on this UNC squad. If he transfers, definitely go after him. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe Roy needs to retire?

Kerwin Walton as a transfer would be super intriguing. He's a sure fire high major starter who will probably average 15+ a game as an upperclassmen.

I tend to agree, win and talent will come.
TJ took the long path at UNLV and had a rough last year that could have altered his mindset in year 1 in Ames. UNLV is set up well next year though so it could be the best way. Just curious what his plan will be this spring. Well know soon enough.

Are we going to do this again?
Guess ISU recruiting him a third time could be a charm... He obviously would bring shooting.

I am getting curious on how TJ will approach who he brings in. He took a long term approach at UNLV his first 2 years. He may be looking for long term pieces as opposed to play 1 year players looking at year 3 to really compete or get the most ready fill in players and get as many wins in year 1 to jump start the rebuild. Interesting spring coming.

It would seem to me like we're a better destination in the eyes of players with 2+ years than for a grad transfer (unless they're simply looking for playing time), and everything that has been said by TJ and JP indicate long term, so the two things kind of fit together.

Gonna tell my kids this is Chet Holmgren.

I went down the UNC rumor rabbit hole yesterday and saw alot of this as well. Sounds like alot of the discontent came about the minutes Brooks got. I've also heard they could be looking at a bunch of defections.

The crazy thing is that Brooks was preseason ACC POY. Certainly, a decent player but not at that level. Funny, we were supposedly in on him when he de-committed from Miss St, if I correctly remember... Tough to sit a Sr who's got that pre-season pub, but Roy should have made the minutes for those four more even, with Sharpe at the top, subject to foul trouble, of course.

As much faith as I have in TJ's recruiting abilities, it sucks that in a year when a ton of transfers are available and immediately eligible, we have to be coming off a 2-22 year. The top transfers aren't going to come here, they'll want a contender, one that's a sure fire to make the big dance. And I get that we don't want to just pick up a transfer to have a body. Hopefully a few of those waiting to explode juco players are out there. Wishful thinking??

I wonder if they will reach out the transfer from George Washington who is from Minnesota? Jamison Battle.

As opposed to other years, though, we can also offer A TON of minutes and a huge spot in the rotation, instead of being a periphery/last piece of the puzzle sort of deal.

That won't get you the super top tier guys that Gonzaga/Kentucky etc will be fighting for, but I'd imagine there'd be plenty of guys in that next step down that are at a P5 already in not quite as big of a role as they want or coming up a level and not wanting to be the 6th option for someone.

TJ needs to make it a "thing" for a number of high level one year guys to come to ISU. Like a "Fab 5" for transfers. That's not going to be easy. If it's not going to happen then just scrap together what we can and put our eggs in the 22-23 basket.

From what I saw Sharpe was clearly their best big. Bacot was a good energy guy but somewhat limited. Kessler seems like a guy that would have gotten better with more run. Tools were certainly there and down the stretch he was pretty imposing defensively. I never understood the Brooks love, when I watched he wasn't very good.

Good point. For example, there were lots of players I watched on big12 teams coming off the bench that I would think during the game...."geez, he could be a starter for us".

Let's wait and see what TJ ends up with before we dismiss ISU as a place transfers won't want to go this year. I am sure he's already reached out to some. Once his staff is set we'll get smoke on the targets.
TJ has relationships with a lot of potential transfers that could look at ISU as a place where they can get ample playing time. Otz is a fresh start and shouldn't have that stigma attached to him.

Prohm would have had trouble attracting transfers with a 2-22 year and lack of transfers performing under his coaching.
