NBA: ***Official 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread***

Nick Nurse with the classic

Call a time out while the other team is gassed while my team is on a massive 10-0 run and has the crowd rocking

strategy.

Unbelievable game... really feel for KD. Warriors small lineup finally meeting its match, they cannot rebound against this Toronto lineup while Toronto can still defend - first team that has been able to really match the two. I'm not sure they can continue to shoot quite that good. This team is hanging by threads, Looney could barely keep himself together last night.

Why would you ever think he's completely healthy? You think he was just sitting out NBA Finals games for the hell of it?
No I was assuming the only way he was going to play would be if he was 100% healthy and they were not going to bring him back if there was a possibility he could re-injure himself. Many people were saying the same thing that he was not going to try and come back and trainers were not going to clear him until he was good to go and feeling well to play on it.

Kawhi was on a 10-0 run and he himself looked gassed.

Who cares. Warriors were absolutely gassed and Toronto had all the momentum in the world. Kawai was just fine. No other coach in NBA history calls a timeout there - at least wait until your offensive possession is over.

only had 3 all-stars
Not a Warriors fan and I have no dog in this fight, but don't the Warriors and the Raptors now have the same amount of all-stars playing? Kawhi, Lowry, and Gasol has been a 3x all-star. While the Warriors have Steph, Klay, and a 3x all-star in Draymond?

KD with an Achilles injury. MRI tomorrow.

If it’s torn he should opt into his $30M+ contract for next year and stay with GS. Nice little severance/insurance policy.

Of course he should stay with GS while he rehabs. Then again, the Knicks would be dumb enough to sign him while he rehabs.

Iguodala is their 4th, but your point stands. Gotta love Siakam.

I watched ESPN this morning and my god, you'd have though KD died by the way they were reporting this. I get it-- it sucks. He tried to gut it out and shouldn't have and you hate to see a guy in his prime get hurt. But he's still going to get a max deal, and I imagine he will come back just fine.

Iggy is only a one time all star but yes he's a very important piece, as is Siakam right now. Everyone loves to say how unstoppable and unbelievable these Warriors team have been and are, but their achilles heal (no pun intended) is the fact that they gave up tons of parts on their bench in order to get KD and then pick up Boogie. If they lose one of their top guys, they don't have a lot to choose from to fill the void. Realistically they have 7 players that should be getting quality minutes and when a main guy gets injured, they are very beatable, which is now being proven.

Why? He very well could miss all of next season, what good is that to stay with Golden St instead of signing a max deal this summer, and he will still get max offers. Also, he might not be the biggest fan of Golden St's medical staff and front office right now if they pushed him to play before he felt ready.

Not like the bench on the original teams were world beaters, they just played well together. The core of that bench is still together with Andre and Livingston.

Barbosa, Ezeli, and Ian Clark aren't significantly better than Quinn Cook, Jordan Bell, and McKinney. Andre and Livingston have gotten a little older and a step slower.

I think he'll get a max offer from multiple teams too, but do you think this injury changes which teams? It would be sort of like The Process, except instead of accumulating picks you're losing in 19-20 and banking on a healthy KD plus a high lottery pick or a running mate that can be acquired as part of a trade package for that pick starting in the 20-21 season.

This pretty much happens to all title contenders unless you have stars taking paycuts like the Spurs did or a star on a rookie deal. Almost all title contenders are capped out and have very limited resources to add quality depth or pay to keep the guys they do have. It happened to Miami, they let Mike Miller walk as two time defending champs for purely tax reasons. Milwaukee had a great bench this year, they're going to lose that in the coming years as they go over the cap to extend their main guys. For a team like Golden St to keep having quality depth, they need to crush late first and second round picks, which is really hard to do. It looked like they hit on Patrick McCaw, he played some big Finals minutes as a rookie but injuries derailed his development. Quinn Cook was a good find, but outside of that they haven't been able to add any quality young perimeter or wing guys to the rotation

Anyone and everyone with a max slot available will offer it to him. I think how the medical staff has treated him over the last month will determine whether or not he wants to rehab with GS or with someone else.

Yeah I agree completely. When you keep adding stars, the quality of the bench diminishes even more too. The old Golden State with their Big 3 and an amazing bench will not happen again.

I don't think the Lakers were serious candidates to land him but it probably takes them out of it, I don't think you can sell LeBron on waiting a year at this point. I think the Knicks will still absolutely offer him a max, Brooklyn and the Clippers probably consider it a bit more now, both have more assets and already have competitive teams without KD. Maybe a team like Dallas comes out of nowhere and makes a bigger push for him now, sell him on another year of Doncic's development and getting Porzingis back to full speed.

But can Golden State afford to keep him? I think if he stays, they would have to choose between him and Klay Thompson. Klay is due to sign a huge contract this year.
It would have been a max contract had he not been snubbed on the all-NBA teams.

It just depends on how big a tax bill their owners are good with. They can max both of them again since you can go over to resign your own guys.
