Gomez did?

Those seem like Buggs numbers. He’s got other attributes that are sufficient. Are you applying the worst aspects of each player to the other?

So one guy is short, and the other not a good shooter? Hardly noteworthy. Spring recruiting is about adding fit as much as it is stars.

Unless I'm missing something looks to me like he's played 4 games against P5 teams during his career:

Freshman year: California 9-14
Sophomore year: Washington State 1-10
Junior year: Oregon State 6-16; Auburn 8-23

Total of 24/63 or 38%

I was referring to Buggs in the previous post. Gomez was literally a negative box score player...in the Big West. We had 2 players that were negative box score rated this year, Carter Boothe and Nate Jenkins.

I'm just trying to be realistic about these players possibly coming in.

I'm all for that. I too am having trouble getting too fired up about a 5'8" guy from Cal State Northridge.

I think the moral of the story is our roster is in such bad shape we need difference makers to be competitive next year. Not complementary pieces. Difference makers.

We can talk about how Gonzaga offered all we want, but I imagine Gonzaga offered him as a decent option to spell Suggs a few minutes a game. We are in a much different spot.

Cal State Northridge's whole roster had a negative box score rating lol

Gomez had by far the highest Win Share on their team

The offers are the fruits of his labor. He hasn't improved much since he came to Iowa State, these offers reflect that and likely reflect his work ethic.

Prohm’s staff is remarkably tight lipped when it comes to recruiting. Some of his finest moments involved the commitments of LW, THT and XF. They looked like lost causes the night before the announcements.

I really hope to see Carton added to this list.

That is a short backcourt.

Yea I don't think Gomez, Jackson and Bolton would be our perimeter starters. Just to many defensive mismatches that opponents can take advantage.

I think there is a better chance Johnson, Dubar or Blackwell fill the SF position. Those guys might play some 4 in a small-ball lineup- but seems to me Young, Conditt and Foster end up playing most of our 4/5 minutes.

I don't think Gomez or Jackson will start next year. Both would come off the bench if we end up filling the gaps of our roster correctly.

Prohm may not get all his first targets but at least he isn't afraid to go against the top schools for guys he wants.

@jakeweingarten Villanova’s entire staff, led by head coach Jay Wright, will conduct their virtual call/visit today with Rice transfer Trey Murphy III, he told @Stockrisers.

Pittsburgh and Iowa State have done virtual visits with him as well.

Gomez has a pretty dang good ranking by Torvik. Per is 20.8. Offensive rating of 120. The guy is easily going to be one of the 4 best players we could get this offseason.

Not sure about that... Per Torvik's site he was:

- 126th in the country for offensive rating (good, Haliburton rated 83rd)
- 743rd in the country for overall box score rating (very very bad)
- 1000+ in the country for defensive rating (nearly the worst in all of CBB)

Not sure why anyone would chose Iowa State over Nova unless they are a fringe talent and know they won't get playing time at Nova. Which might actually happen. So we shall see. Seems like a great player and at least we were able to do a virtual visit with him.

You're really hanging onto that box score rating. His team was one of the worst defensive teams in the country they all had negative box score ratings

Yikes. He should go JUCO and get his stock back up. That list is gross.

"Hey, this kid had some good offers out of high school, landed at a good school. Let's throw on some tape and see what..."

*Sees his jumpshot*

"Oh. Oh no."

Shayok and his DPM went from...

Fresh = 5.6
Soph = 2.5
Junior = 2.5
RS Senior = 0.0

Did he just get worse at playing defense as he got older?

No. He went from maybe the best defensive program in the country in Charlottesville to one that has "just try and score more than them" embedded into its DNA.
