This kid has way more talent than his #353 national ranking would tell you. However, he is very undersized for his style of play. Only listed at 6'5, 155 lbs and he plays more like a SF/PF. Mid-Major is probably a good spot for him for at least a few years.

Just saw on twitter that Matt Mooney of South Dakota is looking at grad transfer 'options'. Have seen him play live several times. This kid is the REAL deal. Would really space the floor for us with his shooting. Yes, I realize the staff knows about all transfers eventually, but someone on here who has a lot more inside sources needs to INFLUENCE the staff to take a hard look! Would be excited if we could land him, even tho a sit-out is being said as our priority. Don't see how you could pass this guy up when 3-pt shooting is a need. (originally from Illinois- Underwood will pounce, I bet)

Not trying to rain on your parade, however, we truly are set at guard next year. Unless an all-conference caliber player is out there i.e. DeAndre Kane let's forego any grad transfer talk and build for 2019/2020. NWB, Wigginton, Shayok, THT is an extremely talented backcourt rotation with Lewis in his second year with more experience as your three point sniper.
Prohm could be nervous about NWB health and might opt for a immediate grad transfer point guard

Yakwe visited Ames with Diallo when CFH was here. Grad transfer so I doubt ISU will have interest. Good freshman year but fallen out of favor at St. John's.

What reason do we have that NWB wont be healthy next year? It would be extremely difficult to sell a quality transfer on spending their last year on the chance of minutes if there are injuries. They will want a major role on team planned for them. Not likely to happen at ISU next year. Sure it would be "nice" but far less impactfull as a sit out transfer to help in future years.
2018–19 might be a make or break year for Chris Mulin and his future at St. John’s.
I don't we know exactly, though tendinitis is a different sort of thing (if that is indeed what he has). I got it in my left arm from installing wood floors and I still have some symptoms even though I stopped installing 21 years ago.
Any injury can be lingering, but NWB was shut down specifically to get him healthy. 6 Month's out the staff (and I) have to assume the issue will be corrected.
Once again, it is hard to recruit a grad transfer as a contingency IF NWB has lingering issues. NWB, Wigginton, Shayok, THT, Haliburton and Lewis there isn't obvious minutes for any of the guard options available.
We should factor in the the chemistry issues of adding a new player to the rotation could cause. Especially if they are promised a starting role which most if not all quality Grad Transfers will be looking for.
I get that, but I guess I just miss the 'knock down' shooters we used to have. For those that say NWB, Lewis are those guys besides Wigginton, (don't know about Shayok yet) I don't see a defense having to concentrate to take our perimeter shooting away like they would with Mooney. Mooney's career 3-pt % may only be 36%, but when watching him just this season he really could take over a game and get his shot. Strong kid too.
I do not know why a graduate transfer guard would want to play here next year. We just do not have the roster for it. There is way too much potentially ahead of him with Weiler-Babb, Wigginton, and Shayok likely to start, and guys like Talley and Horton-Tucker likely to have some major minutes. Unless disaster strikes with injury, NWB not being 100%, or Wigginton going to the NBA, then we have what we need there for at least the next season.
The year after that is wide open, though. We lose at least NWB, Shayok, and Talley, probably Wigginton to at that point, and it is not like we would not have some interesting players for a PG to feed the ball to with Lard and THT ready to take over the offense. I figure that would be a good lure in having a showcase wing and big man ready to play with you and make the offense look good. That is even before you might bank on some new recruits and development from talented-but-somewhat-raw guys like Lewis and Griffin in future seasons.
I agree with your conclusions as it relates to next year. I just don't think you can say 6 months and he's good to go with this.
I don't understand why everyone claims we have no shooters. Both of our starting off guards (Wigginton and Shayok) will shoot around 40% from three next year I promise you. Wigginton shot 40+% from three as a true freshman. I promise you in a more free flowing offense which generates open looks Shayok will be around 40% as well. Lewis has the potential to be a freak from three just needs more experience and confidence.
Let's keep in mind Naz Long was a career 38% from three. Matt Thomas was 40%. Loved both of those players but at times they were truly one-dimensional. Wigginton and Shayok are more well-rounded players.
