We recruited him out of HS too. Would've been a good target if we missed on Johnson.
Looks like his Mother is sick and could be the direct reason for his recent absence and decision to Transfer. TJ could benefit due to the circumstances. This is a case where the hardship waiver should be accurately applied, of course the NCAA is involved so who knows.
@CBB_Central Recently, it was reported he’d take a leave of absence from Utah due to the health of his mother. Now, he’s transferring. If his Mom lives in his hometown of Detroit, this could be a Mustapha Heron situation with Michigan the favorite.
@CBB_Central Actually, it appears that his mother lives in Las Vegas now. Heron deal could apply with UNLV now.
I don't think he's as good as the market for him would suggest. He's an ok rotation guy benefiting from everyone trying to copy the Texas Tech formula with grad transfers. It's not like he's going to suddenly become a reliable offensive threat now after three years of maddening inconsistency.
We offered initially, and sounds like the coaches reached out when he entered the transfer the portal.
Oh great, without reading the article does this screw us for waiting on getting the Bolton waiver in?
Hopefully Rasir can get his case resolved successfully before that goes into effect.
This would appear to be the most relevant passage of the article in his case (making some assumptions on what his case is about):
"The previous guidelines allowed waivers to be granted for “egregious behavior by a staff member or student at the previous institution” as long as the previous school did not oppose the waiver, giving the committee a fairly broad window to view those claims. The updated version says waivers should be granted for documented cases where the athlete was a victim of “physical assault or abuse, sexually inappropriate behavior, racial abuse, religious discrimination, questioning of sexuality by a staff member or student at the previous institution” though the definition isn’t limited to those areas."
Obviously a bias party in the deal but I recall Rasir's father has said publicly that Penn State is being helpful throughout the process. This probably is along the same lines as to why there's no point for previous schools to attempt to block transfers... their best course of action is to be compliant and not draw negative attention.
