***Official 2017 Transfer Thread***

We don't realize this is a year-by-year thing right now.
You'd think our fans would get this better than any others, but here we are.
It's the year-to-year thing that gives it a high opportunity cost. Taking a redshirting transfer guard with three to play is a lot closer to "building the right way" than the year-to-year mindset. And everyone is for taking elite talent regardless of position/class, but that's not the type of player that started this discussion imo.

Why are we so worried about this 3 years in advance? Just get the best guys in here that we can. A lot can change in those 3 years to make the classes even out again.
It's not about 3 years from now, but more about next year and to a lesser extent 18-19.

Not sure if you're being serious but Tim Floyd left for the Chicago Bulls and Steve Alford probably would've been fired amid all the Pierre Pierce stuff so he got out while he still could.
Probably meant Greg McDermott quitting and going to Creighton. Or like when Wayne Morgan went from Iowa State to Mediacom

We have 4 available scholarships for next year. The staff can go out and get a couple grad transfers, plus a freshman sit-out transfer and still have the classes be pretty damn even.

Have there been any decent transfers with any connections to the program announced yet? I would think that our chances would be much better for guys that were originally recruited by this staff or have some connection to a player or coach but I have not heard of any yet. I think we need 1-2 grad transfers to even the classes out.

Get the best players you can period. it's crazy to worry about more than a year or two out. Win now, fill scholarships later with jucos and graduate transfers if needed.

No matter how hard you try to keep classes even, it won't happen. Players leave for various reasons, or don't develop like planned. It's just how it goes.

Have a transfer or two with some freshman ready for the future.. but you'd be a fool to be worrying about said freshmans senior year already.

Yeah get the best players we can. Even classes are nice but if you can get a guy that can get you to the next level. Take him

It's funny really that people say this now and then in 2 to 3 years, when there is a void at some position like there was this year, they will constantly ***** about it.

Some of you have failed to grasp the fact that the transfer market is not the same as it was in 2012. We no longer have the inside track to these guys. There has to be more of a plan than "Get the best guys for next year." Some also don't seem to realize that we will have 3 scholarships, tops next year so you have to have an idea of what you want 2 years down the road because you can't just grab a bunch of grad transfers to fill holes.

Scholarships should be used to provide maximum incremental value, not maximum value. So an immediate eligible is of more value than a sit a play of the same stars due to how young we are this next year, but will be pretty solid in a year or two. With four scholarships to use we can absolutely burn one on a sit out transfer, but grad transfers and juco's are preferred.

Tim Floyd, Steve Alford left Iowa for a worse lower profile job. So yeah coaches will take a lower level school just to get away from the nonsense for a while
And McDermott left ISU for Creighton. Over the same reasons all though we couldn't afford to fire him

Sources maintain that Bolden is expected to transfer closer to his Dallas home -- either TCU, SMU or Texas. So we may be seeing him in a couple years.

Would be a homerun get. I'm guessing just about every team in the country will want him.
