Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

It is truly crazy how much damage he's doing to his "dream" job. We're essentially waiting for an NBA front office, that has proven to be mediocre at best, incompetent at worst, to try to get compensation for a coach they hated, and were ready to cut ties with.

Meanwhile, any additional pieces that could have strengthened next year's team are lost because of this. Then, after losing a huge chunk of this dream team, he's made sure future recruiting is at an absolute stand still.

Now after all of this damage he's inflicted on the future of the iowa state basketball program, we hear he may not take this job that has cost us potential important pieces to what could be a great team. Instead he may come back next year, but then leave the cupboard about as bare as he found it when he leaves for Minnesota the next year.

If that doesn't scream loyal son and dream job, I don't know what else possibly could. Sarcasm

Pollard wants TJ. That much is obvious. I don't think that will satisfy this fanbase. So we're back to being iowa state.

So let me see if I have this straight:

1) We were Iowa State
2) CFH played 4 years of bball for that Iowa State (assuming we remained Iowa State at that time)
3) He went on to play 10 years in the pros and we remained Iowa State through Floyd, Eustachy, Morgan and McDermott (average coaching tenure about 3 1/2 years)
4) He comes back to coach us for 5 years and take us to 4 NCAA tournaments - making us NOT Iowa State
5) Now he leaves and we become Iowa State again?

Yes, it's why we can't have nice things

Perhaps the real story is Fred has not said anything because he is concentrating on getting well from heart surgery,...... as he should be. It is possible everything else is a media led over reaction. With all due respect, nothing Jeremy said could not have been cobbled together by anyone paying attention. And none of it is testable.

I don't blame you for trying to think positively about the situation. Reality will bite you though.

Similar theories have entered my mind. But it's too easy these days to convey information digitally, without much effort, I don't trust that type of hunch.

The only way I'd entertain that idea is if Fred & family decided, during recovery period, he's going to devote minimal attention to basketball (only what's immediately required by the job). That's even grasping at straws, because p.r. is part of minimum expectations of the gig.

Fred is quiet because:

He is unaware of everything going on since he's in a coma.
Or.
If he is aware, that leads you to three options:
A) he feels its too hard to pick up his phone and tweet out that he's staying.
B) he's staying quiet because he's still deciding and/or working out a new deal with ISU.
C) he can't comment because the Bulls still have a coach and/or he is working out a deal with the Twolves.

The most realistic scenario is option C. The most positive thing you could think about in this case is option B. He's not that lazy to be option A.

I thinks it's too hard to pick up the phone. Lots of stress. Fred just needs to relax and get better.

Your commentary completely discounts the coma scenario. I know that's what I'm going with.

Tweeting that he is staying would be counter-productive. Limited, if any, pr value and harms negotiating position.

You know, I really did think that Fred was going to be the type of guy who stays at ISU for 10 or 15 years, turns down NBA offers, etc like some other coaches have due to his ties to the university. Not looking as much lately - hopefully he stays but I really thought he was different than some other coaches.
