Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

You could have been offline for months and there would be no real news. Nothing but speculation from everyone...it's hard to believe that some people can actually make a living by peddling rumors like this. What a country!

If I had a nickel for each post on here that said Fred is gone...

The only thing that I got from this thread, is that this is Dandy.

As a hypothetical I am greatly amusing myself thinking of all the butt hurt some Cyclone fans will have if Fred jumps to the NBA and when he leaves/gets fired from the team he jumps to.

Fred currently has as close to a lifetime contract with the Clones as it comes. He can do no wrong as long as he stays in town. So if spurning much of the Cyclone fan base by jumping ship earlier than we would have all thought to be right and just, where could Fred possibly go after his first NBA gig where his "Mayor" status does not get revoked?

If he goes to the Bulls that presumably would be a dream job scenario for him, starting out his NBA career in one of the largest sports markets for one of the most storied NBA teams. And if for whatever reason he doesn't cut it on the NBA level, if he dares to fall back to the college ranks some day, is not Iowa State the only college landing spot where he wouldn't immediately burn his "Mayor" status? Imagine facing Hoiberg in a non-con game against a B10 school, or facing off against Hoiberg in the NCAA Tourney with an ACC or SEC school. There would be blood.

So all the props in the world to Fred, for having the very bold cojones to take the chance and the opportunity to live his dream. I wish him well, for however long his time in Ames and wherever he may go. Can we please just fast forward to the 3rd act? I want to see this play out.

Damn it, Dandy.

Didn't your source give you a time for today's announcement? My F5 is getting worn out.

I texted him around 2 and said "are you sure it's coming out today" and he said yes but the CBS sports article makes me think otherwise. Hoiberg probably wants it to get done but it's not his choice to say until the Bulls finally do something with Thibz.

I'll stop posting what he passes along to me now.

Ha nice try. 12 mil/year?

EDIT never mind, he's coaching both the bulls and the wolves. So 6 mill for each. Ok we're good now.
I would have called him out on trying to dupe us when he said "Hed Froiberg" instead of going into specifics about the money, but to each their own.

Anyone else holding out this is just CFH letting the hype brew to then make us all breathe a sigh of relief as he commits to us making the final 4 next year? :)

Lots of chatter at work about this with coworkers...what we all came to realize is this is a reminder that college athletics is a business....back in the day (like the Orr era), you may have made decisions based on story lines, loyalty, etc..now it's a business..even for folks like Freddy.

There were other issues in play when Orr left Michigan for Iowa State, but the business aspect was very much in play. I believe that the money that Iowa State was offering was at least double Johnny's salary at Michigan.

Crazy question here:
have any of your hard core stalkers that probably have CFH's cell phone number just called and asked him yet?

I've always expected Fred to make the jump eventually but thought it would be after this year at some point.

It will be a bit disappointing if he really didn't stay any longer than the near minimum before changing jobs. It seems fairly uncommon that a coach jumps before 4-5 years somewhere.
