Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

Gotta love Travis Hines column saying this isn't hurting recruiting hardly at all and look who comes out with a column this morning saying it is. They can blame this on the fans for getting out of control all they want but the local media's cry for attention has reached new levels imo.
I don't understand at all how it isn't hurting recruitment. Every college basketball player has a goal to play in the NBA. Players come to ISU to play for Hoiberg and also get Hoiberg's connections to the NBA. If that is up in the air, I am going to think twice about coming to ISU unless I know Hoiberg will be there.

Yep, certain media is trying to paint roses on this. Trying to convince the Iowa State fans that this really is a good thing, don't fight it, enjoy it.

This has been much worse. With Chizik it was like "OK, so a Texas guy doesn't want to be here."

This has been like "Damn. Ames' own son doesn't want to be here"

Exactly.

This is the biggest piece of damage Hoiberg leaving does to ISU. If it's not good enough for the Mayor, who the hell else should want to stay?

And the worst part is Hoiberg knows it. He has to know it. ISU Athletics are a whimpering Fredo Corelone sitting in the boat with their stronger, more powerful brother in the middle of that mountain lake just waiting for him to squeeze a round off into our skull.

Old roster with a fanbase stuck in the 90's. A front office that has the roster so jacked that they will have to trade an important piece to sign a max deal with a one year wonder who doesn't get along with the "franchise" player holding on to his spot.

What could possibly go wrong?

Okay so I thought this was hilarious this morning. KXNO Morning Rush guy Travis? The hok fan one had a hilarious diatribe here is how it went:

Caller: blah blah blah, NBA, Bulls, Hoiberg
Travis: blah blah blah, YOU'RE WRONG, Ames, 1st year coaching, VANCOUVER GRIZZLIES
Lady Host: blah blah blah, I don't question men, Travis you're awesome
Travis: I just love this job, that's what I get paid for, proving people wrong
Producer Guy: Did you know that Vancouver isn't an NBA team any longer?
Travis: Oh.

Because our 2015 recruiting is for the 9th or 10th guy off the bench. Not critical at all. 2016 recruiting is what matters, and this should be sorted out soon enough for it not to hurt that (depending on the outcome of the decision).

What for? That seems pointless. Issue a short statement and move on. He's already said all the things he's going to say anyway

Closure, legacy, goodwill. I hope he does issue a goodbye of some sort. It stings but I don't think he is narcissistic enough to truly
grasp how much more he is to Iowa State than ISU's coach at this point. And maybe that's the lesson to be learned here. Nobody is more than the man they are including Fred.

I just can't wait to see how stupid the posts get if/when he announces he's leaving. That's the silver lining here for me.

I just got home from grocery shopping and I saw JP at the gas station filling up his car.
Not sure what to make of it but there it is.

No matter when Fred leaves we'll have this kind of talk.

He's leaving to chase a dream. The move says more about his skill and ambition than it does about ISU.

ISU would've fired Fred if he flopped too. This was a business arrangement at its core.

**** the NBA, but best of luck if Fred jumps

Good luck to Fred in the future. I'm grateful he was as a player, coach and is an alum of ISU. You can't deny somebody an opportunity to possibly achieve greatness.

To those ******** about this hurting recruiting: Fred leaving hurts recruiting, not the process of him leaving.
