Which annoys the hell out of me. They aren't fans. At least profess that they aren't.

I just find the idea of being told how to feel about an emotionally charged situation to be pretty arrogant on their part.

Of course there are people who are going to be incensed if he leaves, and their reasons aren't crazy. Losing Fred Hoiberg is really bad for Iowa State basketball, and anyone who loves Iowa State basketball would reasonably be expected to be less than enthused about the possibility of the most beloved symbol of ISU basketball dropping the big one.

It's the ultimate Fredo Kiss for ISU athletics. And people are almost expected to be happy about it.

Lol. Are you kidding? They're practically demonizing everyone who is miffed at this and have taken the "how dare you question Fred Hoiberg and his motives" stance, along with most of this board.

I haven't listened to any of the local media. If this is true, it's disappointing.

I think that people are perfectly capable of being 1) Grateful for what Fred has done as coach here, 2) Realizing that in order to fulfill his career and family goals he might have to leave Iowa State, 3) Hurt that he doesn't like coaching at Iowa State enough to stay longer

As far as having a press conference, probably worthless since the media loves him (rightly so for the most part). But.....I would like to hear from him. Mostly I'd love to know the timeline of all of this mess.

I am with ya here Al.

It is reaching its fevered pitch I am afraid. We are about to descend in the the dark days that followed the sack of Rome. At least we won't have to worry about competing against the Big 12 teams in 5 years when we get shuffled out of the Power 5.

I'm sure we'll get his version in a carefully worded letter. A smoother version of the following:

"I love Iowa State, and will be forever grateful for everything this community has done for me. This was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make. I will always cheer for Iowa State. Go Cyclones."

Then they can just nuke ISU sports altogether and we can all get on with our lives.

Yeah. That's what it's going to be. Damn near word for word, and hollow as hell.

Signed, Harrison Barnes :)

I know that is what we'll get. Then Jamie will tell us to wish the family well. And to maybe forget the success that we had the last 5 years because it will be hard for the new coach to equal it. :)

I know we won't get it. But I'd love for him to tell us what changed from the end of the season (when well connected sports writers were saying he wasn't a threat to leave this year) to when the pieces started to move into place 6 weeks or so ago.

At this point, I'm just so curious as to how this all went down.

And that is why the same 3-4 comments have been thrown out by every member just deciding to pop in.....this thread could realistically be 5 pages...everything else is duplicate posts...

That's funny coming from you, since you have been posting the same thing over and over since you embarked on your "I told you so!" tour.

So, interesting question. What is worse for a fanbase, a long drug out process like this? Or Gene's stealing away in the night?

This has been much worse. With Chizik it was like "OK, so a Texas guy doesn't want to be here."

This has been like "Damn. Ames' own son doesn't want to be here"

It's the narrative they've fed the hawk sheep for generations. They are thrilled fred is leaving. The odds of iowa state regressing back to a mediocre level increase dramatically with Fred Hoiberg not being the head coach.

And for the people chastising others for being upset, it needs to be understood that this coach, and his wife, know exactly what this move means to everyone associated with iowa state and Ames. This isn't Beverly Floyd wanting out, this is a hometown hero and his hometown childhood sweetheart.

There is a much bigger statement here than just losing a coach, no matter how people want to spin it in the ad.

Gotta love Travis Hines column saying this isn't hurting recruiting hardly at all and look who comes out with a column this morning saying it is. They can blame this on the fans for getting out of control all they want but the local media's cry for attention has reached new levels imo.

The drawn out process is much more damaging. That Fred is willing to do this to his dream job, well I'll just stop there.

Yep, the hoks are really loving this. For them, this is better than if the entire basketball team quit.
