Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

I know this will sound like more made up speculation, but here goes.

I heard from a guy (banker, real estate, has connections in Des Moines) that he has a friend that plays poker with Fred on Mondays. He said it sounds like 50/50.

Now I don't know how much poker Fred has been playing since his surgery, and I thought it was bogus too. Said Fred was supposed to play last night. No confirmation if he actually played or not.

Take it for what it's worth.

All in on one hand for the near future of ISU hoops.

'The Mayor', the legend, would not leave ISU, at least not before winning a national championship. The average individual, a mere mortal, might be lured away for perfectly rational reasons. Does he want to be The Mayor or just Fred Hoiberg?

Who wouldn't want to be the Mayor. It is really a rare opportunity to be an Iconic figure for generations. I wonder if he really gets what he is giving up. To me regardless of the ISU Fandom factor it is a no brainer.

no fan boys at table I'm guessing. He'd get so sick of the gushing

Of all the sources in the thread, whether right or wrong, I like this one the most.

Me. I would want nothing to do with all of that attention and I don't care if it is all positive.

From an emotional standpoint...the article is true of a Cyclone fans life...

I really enjoyed that article. That was creative writing, and he had the foresight to see outside of his world view. Of course most of it is speculation, but in the end, he is right. I also cringe at the fact that Fred knows what this decision means to this fan base. And if he does go ahead and do it anyways, well good luck to you my friend. The midwest is always going to be in me, and I will not hate a man for doing something I never got lucky enough to do, get out and try to be something bigger.

Being too emotionally invested in a job is not a good quality to have. Being emotionally invested as a fan has next to zero implications.

You're right, it's not a good quality to have. It's a GREAT quality to have. What the heck are you even talking about? Apparently you've never owned a business or motivated a team of employees. When workers are emotionally invested in the success of the business they take great pride in the successes and actually give a crap if they perform poorly.

Minnesota with the first pick....let the local media change their pick from the Bulls being the frontrunner to the Twolves for CFH new gig.

At least in Chicago you can pick up free agents. Timberwolves are basically getting their talent in the draft, since no one else wants to play there. If he's going to go the Bulls is by far the better option.

Really? When's the last time the Bulls pick up a good free agent? Boozer, aging and way over paid. Gasol, too old.... They don't have the cap space hardly, and will have to give jimmy butler a larger contract.

Did anyone see Andy Garmin tweet at a random Iowa fan that said I can't believe Hoiberg is really going to Chicago where he got his source?

Is this what local journalism is really coming too?

Can't wait til Randy Peterson steps away from Rag: I'm embarrassed for central Iowa every time somebody quotes his work.

I wouldn't call these guys ability to use twitter Journalism. More like copy a guy at the national level and play it off as your own. Rarely do they even give credit for actual journalist work.

Jimmy Butler is not resigning with Chicago

We need a grand gesture. Why hasn't someone scheduled a massive.sit in outside of Hilton for Fred to stay. Get a few thousand people to wait it out outside Hilton would pull on the old heart. Little kids with signs all the good stuff. We need to show him how much he means to ISU. He clearly doesn't get it.

There will be a sense of betrayal if he bolts and that does make some sense really. This guy is a home grown hero in Ames and is beloved by the fan base. It would be easy for ISU fans to feel betrayed because they are the most loyal fans in the country win or lose (although losing stinks and fans aren't afraid to voice their frustration). It will be hard for some to accept Hoiberg bailing on ISU... a place that allegedly means so much to him and his family.

Yes. You nailed it. He is the native son. The local hero. His is the story of fables. He said this was his dream job. Nobody hates the guy but like it or not, it certainly has the feel of listening to your significant other telling you how much you mean to them for five years and then finding out they've been saying it to someone else at the same time.

There's a stark difference between being invested and being emotionally invested (ie: taking work home with you). At least there is in my worldview. Taking everything from work personally as an endorsement and/or critique at yourself is going down the path of quick burnout.
