You must hold a pretty low opinion of Hoiberg. It'd take him about 10 minutes to offer an opinion on current coaches, or make up of JP's short list.

I'm going to be rather upset about this if it goes down. But none of it means Fred doesn't care immensely about ISU.
 
I appreciate everything he has done, but leaving now would say a lot about how much ISU actually means to him.
Also, you don't take input on the next coach from someone who may want his old job back in 4 years.

I bet Hoiberg hasn't coached his last game for ISU, whether he leaves for the NBA this year or not.

Hoiberg certainly wouldn't have a say in the next HC but his opinion(should he have one) should certainly be considered at least.

Good shape for one season... Then the roster is completely depleted.
2. Fred would likely have some say in who our next coach is
Fred would have absolutely no say in who the next coach is. Do you think JP is going to let Fred hang around and play house with the ISU program after he rips the heart out of it by taking an NBA job? Are you crazy? If Fred wants to make decisions regarding the ISU program then he needs to remain in Ames as the head coach. If he doesn't then it is happy trails.
3. A clean break means that Fred could always come back to the program if the NBA doesn't work out.
You think this would be a clean break? Signing a 10 year deal for over 2 million per year and then turning around and bolting to the NBA? That isn't a clean break in my book. Fred will always be the Mayor and we will always have some good memories from his time in Ames but if he bolts for the NBA I would never want him back in Ames as a part of the Iowa State program.

Listen dude, you don't have to believe me and I don't know why Hines/CW/Murphy say what they're saying but the Bulls knew they were getting Fred since I said it on here and I will stand by that
 
@APkrawczynski: FWIW: just told Hoiberg and Wolves rumors are untrue. Flip and Fred are tight but Flip is coaching next year.
 
CycloneFanatic was really bad at telling when people were joking, now this Fred to the team who shall not be named debacle is really making it bad. Some posters actually think others want T.J. as the head coach next year...

I only made it a couple of graphs into the WRNL pre-emptive goodbye piece. All the "Hoiberg doesn't love ISU as much as you do" talk is annoying and reeks of pre-emptive butthurt. I'm sure Hoiberg loves ISU a ton. But you aren't the ones fielding interest from multiple NBA teams, some of which already have a lot of pieces in place to be very successful in the near future. We all knew this was coming once it became clear that Hoiberg could coach at a very high level. He's always had the connections, and let's face it, he's every bit the fiery competitor that a guy like Fran is; he just channels it differently. Any guy with his kind of competitiveness and skills would at least entertain the idea of going to the next level and testing his mettle.

If he stays, ISU has a serious Final Four contender on its hands, (hopefully) at least another couple years before this starts all over again in earnest (there will be rumors every year that CFH remains in Ames, but they wouldn't always be as high-pitched as they are this year) and he'll absolutely be The Mayor.

If he leaves, it's not the end of the world and he'll still absolutely be The Mayor.
 
This website really needs a way to separate relevant news, tweets, insider info etc from everything else during times like this. It's hard to keep!

I wouldn't say a low opinion of Hoiberg...just trying to win over Chicago is where his focus should be once the decision is made.

And it shouldn't be taken as a insult to ISU...he just has bigger fish to fry. Just my opinion.
