You ou are comparing a top 10 football school? Florida could care less who their bball coach is. Isu is and always will be a bball school. U think Duke fans give a rats *** who their fball coach is...Hell Florida has won a title in bball and their fans still don't give a ****.

Did you mean to say COULDN'T care less? Florida's basketball program has been better than ISU's in the last 20 years. Way better. Its still probably a better job than Iowa State. They can pay more, and are in a better location to recruit to. They have 2 national titles in the last 10 years for crying out loud. Do you really think ISU should be about to attract a bigger name than Florida? Their fans do care about basketball.

TJ also jumps at what are at best lateral job opportunities.

He jumped once, and that had more to do with making it easier for his wife to travel back to Australia, than it did him wanting a new job. Whats that have anything to do with whether he would be a good head coach or not? Or you just really don't like TJ period?

TJ recruits his azz off and will continue to do so. CBB is 80% recruiting and 20% everything else. Being a recruiter with a history of getting top talent at both ISU and UW intrigues me a lot more than an 120-40 record at LA Tech.

White is a very good recruiter. He helped land 3 top 25 classes at Ole Miss and one that was 7th. He had already turned down jobs at Missouri and Tennessee before taking the Florida job.

I'm not even saying I'd love it if TJ was named HC but JFC I don't want to go back to boring defensive basketball and I don't want to gamble on a mid-major guy and at this point the CBB coaching chips have pretty much been pushed to the middle. I know 2 things:

1) TJ will recruit and we will have good players here
2) We will play uptempo offensive basketball that will probably resemble Hoiball almost in it's entirety.

I will take that if Fred goes right now.

A lot of that recruiting success is a result of Fred Hoiberg being the HC. That changes and what you can sell recruits changes.

That being said, rest assured that Jamie Pollard is going to go after someone like Archie Miller very hard. The guy has an Elite 8 and into the Round of 32 the last 2 season. And featured 2 completely different styles of coaching adapted to his players. I like this guy as a replacement.

Florida may be a football school, but basing a single season and the next preseason ranking to claim ISU and Florida are not comparable is crazy. Kruger and Donovan had runs at UF that far exceed that of any coach in ISU history.

I think Otz is able to sell CFH. Can he sell himself as the coach? How much do head coaches beat the bushes for recruits? Do they move in after the assistant has built the relationship and has gotten them for a visit? I guess my question is, will Otz actually be recruiting as head coach or will his assistant need to try and sell the kid on Otz?

It had to be easier to sell Fred Hoiberg, NBA player, NBA exec w/connections, up and down basketball than trying to sell Otz, who.........?

I am not for Otz as HC, but to be fair he did much of his great recruiting work during the McD era.

That's not the point. I'm not saying White is a bad hire, but I'd rather have TJ for ISU even though White might be the better everything and anything. I'm saying guys that can recruit is where it is at right now and at this point what you can get you can't be choosy.

The last thing I want a bunch of nut kicked ISU fans to do after losing Fred is to start wondering if we could have gotten Gregg Marshall or Shaka Smart if this would have played out earlier. That's not going to happen and it never would have happened.

Recruiting is like life, it's not about who you are, it's about who you know.

Is it? Where are the results on the recruiting trail with even more success on the court? How was he able to bring in the great players he did with Mac as HC?

I don't know how good he will be as a HC but to diminish his recruiting chops is ridiculous. Look at what he did at Washington.

I remember Craig Brackins.....who I thought underachieved at ISU. Rated a 5 star. And I remember Melvin Ejim and Diante Garrett who didn't really develop until the arrival of Hoiberg. And those 2 guys were not that highly ranked. Name all the other great recruits that Otz got for Mac.
