I understand that, but JP needs to give the appearance that he is at least trying everything he can to keep Fred. Just letting him walk with out trying is just stupid. Plus he is going to have to give a new coach worth anything at least what he is giving Fred.

He needs to give that appearance why? To make you feel better about it? Think about what you are saying.

There's no question that there is unfinished business at ISU but life is all about timing.

And this timing sucks for Iowa State basketball.

He (and his family) obviously want to be in Chicago. That job wouldn't be open next year. If he did that he might have to stay at Iowa State for 3 or 4 more years before Chicago opened up again. The horror!!

I agree with your premise without the anger. It's clear he loves coaching in the NBA more than he loves coaching at Iowa State. I don't think that means he hates Iowa State. But it is not what he wants to do.

Then why ask for this job in the first place? He should have just got a bench job in the NBA

That's why JP said what he did this week. Essentially, JP is saying that nothing he could offer would keep Fred here.

I am saying give the fans peace of mind that you are trying.

If he leaves why do you care what path he took to get there? ISU is better off than when he got here. Win-win. ISU would be better off if he stays, no doubt, but once he's gone who cares why unless he was pushed out? That's obviously not the case.

If you want to be mad at him, fine. Nobody gives a f^&k.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

I'll be upset if he leaves but he is still the head coach at ISU. Some are already crucifying him as if he left and burnt down Hilton at the same time.

One where everyone can talk about how great it will be for Iowa State if Hoiberg leaves. And one where everyone will talk about how much the situation sucks.

Jamie isn't an idiot. He knows that the likelihood of Iowa State basketball maintaining the level of success it has under Hoiberg is tiny (and so does Hoiberg).

But what can you do? He wants to be a coach in the NBA more than he wants to be a coach at Iowa State.

Sometimes it just sucks for Iowa State.
