Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

If you don't understand why a person who covers ISU athletics wouldn't want to break one of the biggest ISU stories ever without permission I can't help you

Cytwins, given your history, your comments scare me more than Dandy's did. When do you think this becomes official? That said... I still think Dandy's making things up. I dont' buy he's told the players, or that TJs the interim.

If you truly think that way, that's really cute.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Im sitting at a back yard fire right now with someone that collects checks from ISU and JP may or may not be their boss. And they say this isn't true.

does this person's name rhyme with Ted Zoidberg?

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Let's look at it this way, Hines obviously knew WELL in advance TJ was leaving and didn't say anything to suggest it was a done deal even when he knew it was. If Hines gets asked on Twitter today if Fred is leaving and says he is leaning towards Fred leaving what happens? People freak out

I think he knows Fred is leaving and is playing it off until he knows it's coming out but that's strictly my opinion

Completelt backwards. These guys want hits to their Twitter feed. Hines and RP are the two most connected guys to this program in Iowa...no question. Obviously Hines and RP have put out feelers to their sources inside the program and if Hines is slightly leaning toward fred staying then I believe he's been told that or something that would make him say that. If Hines truly found out that Fred is gone but don't tell anyone yet then Hines surely would have tweeted something to the effect of "not feeling good about Hoiberg being at Isu next year" or something like that.

I don't know when it becomes official but think it will go down as one of those "worst kept secrets" type of thing when it's announced. I PMed Dandy, pretty much everything he heard was what I heard FWIW

I wish I was at a back yard fire. That sounds like fun.

I PM'd your sister, she wasn't able to confirm.

You don't think Hines gets hits on his Twitter feed announcing TJ coming back before ISU announced it?

Do you know anyone who collects a check from ISU?

My kid works for rec services, I am sure 45 people in the AD's office and with the men's basketball program have confided in him with this tightly run ship.

When did hines tweet that? I looked at his feed, and don't see it... at least not recently. Also.... In the "I'm reading way too much into this column... Williams and Hines haven't tweeted in quite a while... I hoep it's not because they're preparing the he's leaving story.

Good lord, you won't drop the TJ thing, huh? Did he say he didn't think TJ would be an assistant after he knew he would be?

There's a couple hundred people that care about that, breaking the Hoiberg to the Bulls story is a national story. Those two things aren't even comparable.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

You guys bashing on posters for stating what they have heard need to back off. If you don't agree, that's fine, but don't call them out. Hell that's one of the main reasons I get on here. I don't have any close sources, so the only way I can get a feel for what's going on around the program is thru those that do.

One thing I've learned from following situations where posters have inside info, share it here, then get bashed, is that those with the inside info are usually right.

Agreed. Thank you for the post.

Message board credibility means very little, but cytwins has you beat in spades. I thought it was 50/50 before today, but leaning toward gone now, just from rumors from some posters that have no reason to just 'throw **** against the wall.'

I do think Fred could have second thoughts, and come back right before or right after signing, kinda like Donovan a few years ago.

Really no way I can win in this situation. I think Hines either knows or thinks Fred is gone, just my opinion. I very well could be wrong

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Guys like Hines do not advance their career long term by being the first one to "break a story".

They advance their career by being smart and strategic. Building credibility and relationships, and then writing good stories.

They want to report things but not before it's ready to be reported. They're not breaking the story because it's not 100%.

But that certainly doesn't mean it's not 90% done and likely to happen.

They're not going to trash their relationships around the ISU AD and jump the gun on something but that doesn't mean it's not happening.
