I could not disagree more.

Fred was upfront with his NBA calling from day 1.

Fred used ISU as a proving ground as a player to showcase his talent to play at the NBA level.

He did the same with coaching. He entered into contract (with a buyout?) and not a forced labor camp.

Be dissapppinted if you want, but we should be happy for the man

Fred doesn't owe ISU anything, I get that (wish the University felt that way about me. I get calls every couple of months from them telling me they provided me with a great eduction and now I should give back more to the University)

Anyways, fine, Fred doesn't owe ISU or the fans, but I also don't owe Fred anything. Sorry, I love ISU, not a big fan of the NBA and even less of a fan of the Bulls. So I will not be happy for Fred leaving ISU for the Bulls. I'm a fan, I can feel however I wish. You be happy for Fred, personally, if he leaves, I'm going to be ******.

I won't be able to root for him to succeed in Chicago either as I can't stand the Bulls. The fact that they stole another coach from us would be just icing on the cake for me to be happy when they lose.

As I said, if Fred doesn't owe ISU, then as fans, we certainly don't owe him anything either.

I will root against the Bulls because I can't stand them, Hoiberg or not. Such annoying entitled fans too.

Why do number of years make a difference?

With his quotes about staying and ending his career, I agree.

With his quotes about raising his family in Ames, the timeframe is obviously in conflict.

Also, I thought Fred stated he wanted to bring Big 12 titles and championships to ISU. While I'm very grateful for returning ISU basketball to being relavant and fun, I feel if he hasn't achieved those goals and bailing after five years is too short of a timespan to move on. It feels more like using ISU as a stepping stone rather than bringing ISU basketball to greatness. As a fan, I tire of ISU being used as a stepping stone for any good coach, especially by one of your legends.

Who said he owes ISU or the fans anything? I said he is no different than John Calipari. Fre has leveraged other jobs for more money and explored other opportunities year in a year out. That's what 99% of coaches do. And Fred is no different.

That doesn't make him a bad person or it doesn't mean he owes us something. It's just the way it is.

i am probably being a bit unreasonable or naive, but I feel like he owes us a little more than the usual business partner because we were the ONLY team that would have given him a job of this caliber considering his resume at the time. He was handed a pretty darn good job- although not the best situation- with a very thin resume in which the most relevant accomplishments were "Ames Native" and "ISU grad".

As an Iowa State fan I will be happy for things that positively affect our school, players and fans. Hoiberg leaving hurts all of those and quite frankly it is going to hurt them a lot. If he does leave I'm not going to root against him but I'm certainly not going to be happy for him.

So you'd rather have a coach that pretty obviously is exploring other options rather than start fresh?

You don't think ISU is in a better place than 5 years ago and can't attract a quality coach?

The Hoiberg Era was a hell of a lot of fun, but all good things.....

Oh just when the players were told, when the coaching staff was told, when Fred decided.

Other than that, he nailed it.

I don't think he was wrong about either of those. Fred and the staff have known since he said it and if someone says anything else I think they are misinformed. I know you don't believe that but like I said, this will be one of those "worst kept secrets" type things when it all comes out

And not only do many media members know this, they are actively lying about knowing this as well. Pretty impressive that Pollard was able to control not just the media around Ames but the NBA media guys as well. He's more powerful than I realized.

You really think Pollard and the staff don't know Fred's decision right now? Cmon man
