Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

Well he had no trouble tweeting after surgery or on hospital discharge. It is pretty tough to tweet or comment from your recliner though.
Fred is not going to comment on a job that is not available at this time. Saying "I don't want the Bulls job" doesn't end speculation he is a top candidate. And if he then does leave, he looks bad. Silence is the best strategy until the Bulls have an opening.

To me, this delay could only mean 3 things:

1. He's genuinely undecided
2. His ISU contract is being negotiated. Again.
3. His Bulls contract is being negotiated.

I don't buy the other scenarios that are being brought up- he's waiting for his kids to end the school year, he's recovering from his surgery, they're waiting until the playoffs are over, etc.

Summer classes started yesterday. I assume the players go home in the week between and that they all take some summer classes so their load isn't as heavy in the school year since basketball season spans both semesters.

We were nothing more.

Fred saying he doesn't want the Bulls or any NBA job absolutely would end speculation because he wouldn't make such a statement if it weren't true.

Not for ISU recruiting purposes. It's known that recruits are in the dark and looking elsewhere. That's the biggest sign of them all that Fred is leaving or seriously thinking about it.

I really thought that Fred would stick around, at least until Georges graduated. I feel like he owes it to him/ and the fans in a way (I know that I don't have a right to feel that way, but I do).

For the 50th time, unless a meeting happened on Skype, none of the players are in Ames to have a team meeting. And once he tells the players, the news will leak quickly. Fred isn't telling the players until Thibs gets traded/fired. The Bulls can't make two head coaches at the same time.

It will be impossible for Fred to string this along for weeks without everyone knowing what his plan already is. The Bulls may not want that to happen, but there is no way the entire ISU athletic department will keep quiet, nor should they try to do so. The news will be everywhere soon (whether official or unofficial) that Fred is gone. Jamie won't be sitting around. Heck, he may be on a plane today doing interviews. If so, there's no way you get an entire staff to keep that news under wraps.

This...

I know a ton of football players were gone last week and tweeted about coming back yesterday

Exactly. Certainly the most logical three possibilities.

My biggest concern in all of this at this point in time is for JP. He has had his recent health issues and the stress of finding a new basketball coach closely followed up with finding a new football coach at the end of this coming football season will certainly take a toll on him. This next 12 months at ISU is going to be hell for JP.

exactly. it doesn't have to be about the bulls. a simple "there are rumors out there about the nba but I wanted to reinforce my commitment to Iowa State. I fully expect to be coaching a national championship team next year."

Well, Max Bielfeldt anyway. For the 2016's and beyond it doesn't really matter. If Fred leaves then we're going to be moving in other directions and if Fred stays then they don't give a crap and nothing changes from where we were at a month ago.

Not true. Fred doesn't have to say anything about the Bulls. All he would have to tweet is "I love ISU and can't wait for next season." Period. The fact he won't do that says everything.

There is no way that there would be an interim coach. That wouldn't happen.

Funny how people that are convinced he is already leaving see everything that happens as confirming that belief. Anyone ever think Otz was brought in bc Hoiberg was going to be out so long he needed a top assistant who he was comfortable with basically running things while he was out? He wasn't going to bring an unknown to handle things.

There are some crazy conspiracy theories on here.

If by 'while he's out' you mean forever, then yes.

Meh maybe. There are agents and lawyers at play right now Im sure. Contracts and offers thrown around. Family opinions. There is a ton to take into consideration and it needs to be handled with respect to all parties. Fred doesnt seem like a guy who enjoys burning bridges.

I am starting to feel like George Costanza in the episode he breaks up with a girl before she breaks up with him. Then she says she doesn't want to break up, and then breaks up with him at the end of the episode. That is what is going down isn't it?

How can he say that when the Bullz can't even put out an official contract for him? He might have an idea and some words from the Bullz about what they will give him but I don't deal in multi-million dollar contracts and I'm not biting on that even from an NBA franchise. No reason to burn that bridge right now. Fred still has time on his side here. Bowing down to impatient fans is about as stupid as taking a verbal contract as a legally signed agreement to be the head coach of the Bullz.
