Official 2014 Recruiting thread

I hope we land Clinkcsales and possibly redshirt him unless he proves to be good enough to start, but we have 3 SRs at DT next year (Irving, Coe and Jensen). I would also love to land a speedy DE and a good solid LB and maybe one more DB.

On offense, I think 1 more OL and another RB would be good. Jeff Jones would be huge, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. If Mister stays with ISU, then he could be a really good RB/WR combo guy. This kid had interest in ISU a last year, but not sure about now. Maybe if the coaches contacted him?... No offers, but he is a good power RB. Could be a good replacement for Woody. Kenric Young would be a great guy to land as well, but I'm thinking he sees Lazard, Montgomery, Bundrage, Ebcy etc. are all young and he might not see the field as early as he would at a school like Indiana.

Syria's a power back that's more well rounded than Woody. Also, Standard.

I somewhat agree. I don't quite consider him a "power" back. He is in between IMO. Has power, but not quite the typical "power back." I am hoping they redshirt him and bulk him up, but he also has pretty good speed and athleticism. Get him up to 235 where Woody is at, and then he is gonna be tough to stop.

Another player that hasn't been mentioned in a while is LB Nile Sykes. I still feel like we have a chance and think that he is another priority for this recruiting class

Definitely, signing Sykes would be huge for locking up a strong LBing core in the future

Last time I looked into Sykes, his top 3 seemed to have been ISU, Indiana, and Syracuse. At that time, the only Official he had scheduled was for Syracuse which if I remember correctly, was scheduled for a few weeks ago. But looking at his profiles now, Syracuse is no longer listed as a scheduled visit. Perhaps considering they already have 4 LBs committed for 2014, they backed off?

Do not see a reason why he wouldn't RS with Wimberly, Nealy, Standard and we haven't seen Brown. With Wimberly back, he should be able to take a year.

Coe could always move back outside, it'd most likely be him than Irving. I think Clinkscales is one of those players you just can't RS.

Terrell Clinkscales, Danzel Mcdaniel, Jeff Jones, Micquel Cotton, and Kenric Young would put this recruiting class through the roof. I know the likely-hood of this happening is slim, but we have to have something to look forward to after the start to this season.

Sign me up.

Sykes would be huge!! I remember over the summer reading somewhere that he was wanting to play DE in college, but that he would play LB if needed. We need both, so I am curious which position we are recruiting him for.

Sykes has always been a DE in high school. Problem is that he is 6'1" (or shorter). Therefore, most football programs have been projecting him as a LB. He worked out, at the LB position, at summer camps and did well. Does one go for Syke's "potential"; or, do you pursue another MLB like Greg Gooch (who took his official visit to Iowa State during the Texas game). It is sort of mystifying that Gooch is rated by Rivals as a two star with this offer list. Greg Gooch - Yahoo! Sports

I think Young is going to Indiana and Sykes might just end up at Missouri. Obviously I hope they both come here. Jeff Jones would be amazing. He might be rethinking things with Minny even more now because Coach Kill might not be there much longer.

I agree - this would be awesome. However, I think we have more areas of need, but we'd take these guys because they are better talent period. For now, I'd think we do not get Cotton, Jones, & Young but I suppose it is how it plays out with others. Right now we have 5 defensive, 9 offensive, & 1 special teams player for our 15 commits. For now, I put Salters as a WR.

Looking at what we have coming back @ WR & the addition of Montgomery & moving Lawry from DB to WR, it is looking more difficult to justify going after another WR. If K Young wants to be a Cyclone I think we take him, but other than that, I think we may be done at WR.

I'd say we only have room for 3 to 4 more in this class. Of the 4 DBs, 1 looks to have potential to be a hybrid or eventually being an OLB. Just true LB leads me to think we will get at least 1 more and currently we have ZERO DTs or DEs. Clinkscales has to be a top priority and there would be no way he red-shirts. If we did not get Jones or Young, Sykes would be an enormous get & in a position of more need when looking big picture. This Greg Gooch is intriguing, as he has good offers and a fair amount of them, and his measureables are more of a true MLB rather than having to develop in our pipeline (can't help but think Tim Dobbins 2.0). McDaniel looks to be a very physical CB who also has very good size for the position & would also immediately see the field. The most current article on Cotton has him as a heavy Indiana lean so I think McDaniel entering the picture answers our last DB of the class.

We have another DE visiting with good measureables:
Camrron Bean - Yahoo! Sports

Also do not know what has become of Edmond Boateng's interest in ISU. He is a big JUCO DE that is a December grad: Edmond Boateng - Yahoo! Sports

Would be hard not to justify getting at least 3 DL players (combination of DTs & DEs being 3).

In the end, I'd like to sign 5 more myself personally: Clinkscales, McDaniel, Sykes or Gooch (both would be ideal), & then 1-2 fliers like Bean or Boateng then a Darius Lee-Campbell or ?

Micquell Cotton is visiting for OSU game.

I agree with an above poster. I think Kenric goes to IU and Nile Sykes maybe Missouri. I really think he's holding off to see what kind of offers he can get before making a decision.

Agreed, might be inclinded to say 4. We only lose Woods and Scott but the year after, we lose Morrissey, Irving, Coe, Jensen and Krick.

And we know it takes years to develop them or we just move them into a slot and hope it works, i.e. Coe and Irving.
