*** Official #10 IOWA STATE vs Cincinnati Game(Day) Thread ***

Seem to be pretty fair comments over there; consensus from both fanbases that this will likely be a tight one tonight. Cincy is nearing desperation for a win tonight to get inside the bubble.
Agreed... I like them. After tonight, I hope they win the rest of their games.

The first paragraph of the first comment.

"They are fairly average in conference play across the board... "

From Torvik for just conference games the combined adjO and adjD rankings have us 2nd.

What?
I can see how someone on the outside could say that if they just look solely at Big12 Stats page https://big12sports.com/stats.aspx?path=mbball&year=2023.

If you click through rebounding, free throws, shooting percentage, etc. we're "average" in those specific categories alone. Obviously when you gel everything together for a full efficiency rating on Torvik or KP we are near the top.

He might have been a Hawkeye for about 10 years or so, but I've heard from a few people, all Cyclone fans, that he's a great dude to be around. Plus I personally believe he's a pretty damn good analyst to listen to.
I had a ton of respect for Jess Settles when he played. I remember him playing through a back injury (?) and still out-hustling everyone on the court.

The more I think about this one, this could end up being a free throws game. Cincy wont back down from our physicality but will try to match it. this could be a real ugly 40-foul type of game
Luckily Cincy is one of the few Big 12 teams that are worse than us in FT%. They are ranked #278 in D1 at 68%.

To be fair, we aren't much better at 69% though.

Only teams in the Big 12 worse than us at free throws are Cincy, Okie State, and for some reason, Houston.

Watched them several times. Their big guy makes Bob look like Steph Curry.

It will become immediately apparent who I'm talking about, trust me.

If that’s the case, if the game gets tight late in the game and he’s still out there playing…. put in Keldermann or Hawley or Omaha to just foul him everytime down the court.

One interesting thing to keep the eye on. CJ Fredrick (yes, THAT CJ Fredrick) transferred from Iowa to Kentucky and then to Cincy this year. He was a starter and their top (really only) 3pt threat, shooting 44% in the non-conference.

but he hasn't played since before Christmas with a hamstring injury. He was medically cleared to play against Houston on Saturday, but played just 2 minutes. If he is ready to play a bigger role today, we definitely need to close out on him.
Obligatory F Iowa. And then two Fs for toussaint on Saturday, now at TxTech, but a big catalyst in the WVU game last season that was Grill's last

He's gotten really good at TV. He does a ton of Mountain West for FS1 and he's really grown into it.

Good listen.
