Is there a good alternative to the herman miller aeron chair? I like the model but $850 is a little pricey in my world.

I really don't know of a world where that isn't pricey for a chair. It better at least have a Istate logo on it for that price.

Mike Shannon (Cardinals radio broadcaster) sits on one of these to avoid a stiff and painful back while broadcasting 162 games a year. Cheap and fun. Make sure you don't work with anyone from The Office though.

My sister does that, of course she doesn't use her desk allot.

I do this sometimes too. Of course I work at home so it's not so embarrassing.

We've tried some of the "knock-offs", and no, there really aren't any alternatives, at least that I've seen. There are chairs that look and function similarly, but aren't as comfortable, and aren't as durable.

You'll go through 2 or 3 of the knock-offs in the same time you go through one Herman Miller.

We've had Herman Millers in daily use for over 5 years, and they still feel like brand new chairs.

I don't know if you can find them used somewhere, but I would have no hesitations picking one up used. I can't think of any of them ever having ANY problems whatsoever.

They are really a marvel of engineering.

A buddy of mine bought one off of eBay for $200 about 3 years ago and hasn't had any issues.

Herman Miller Mirra chair here, they are fantastic, I have yet to find something that I would replace it with that was less expensive.

I'd suggest an Allsteel chair, particularly #19, Acuity, Relate, or Sum. Aeron is fairly old (15 years since introdution) and the Allsteel chairs are equal or better. Plus you'd be supporting an Iowa based company (HNI or Hon) and a lot of ISU grads (myself included ). Let me know if you'd like any other info.

Allsteel offers executive, ergonomic, conference room and guest seating solutions

That would be great but it's $1,000. WAAAAAY to rich for my blood. Unless you can give some kind of Iowa discount for 1/2 off.

I interned at HNI for a few summers. Acuity is the best chair I have ever sat in... too bad they range from $1-2k. You'll find cheaper alternatives through HON.

I totally agree that's a lot for an office chair. But HM Aeron list price is almost identical to Allsteel Acuity. Office furniture is a stange market where list price means something like double the actual price. Check with a dealer and I'm sure the actual price would be much more appealing.

You should try one of the new Fergusin dual purpose chairs. I'd suggest the deluxe ergonomic soft seat model.
