Odunsi Knocking Fools Out

Here is what I've heard through a quality source.

- Anthony has had an impressive senior year. His numbers have been great and there's been some jealously brewing on the part of the twins. Last night, Anthony yelled at one of the twins to get back on defense and may or may not have grabbed his jersey. One of the twins got ticked off, got physical, the other one jumped in and here we are today.

In no way will this affect Anthony's future at Iowa State. He's not a troubled kid. The last I heard he had something like a 3.8 GPA. He's a model citizen. Don't worry about him. He'll be fine. Just my opinion.

So, no worries...if your opinion is correct.

I love it, and hate it...

First of all, let me just say that fighting amongst teammates, during a game is embarrassing.

Now, if there is a silver lining, it's that he wont take any crap (even if he was in the wrong). One thing ISU teams have lacked in the past years is an attitude, and some toughness. Looks like this might be our guy!

Finally, these types of events are rarely all one persons "fault," and like someone else mentioned, I'm surprised it was allowed to get to this level. For these reasons, I'm not goof to pass any judgement, or take a side, and I hope other people refrain too. Trust that TJ/ Fred will have a handle on this situation, and deal with it properly.

Apparently kids today just don't know what the locker room is for!

So let me get this right... The kid is smart, a model citizen, and a competitor that won't put up with his "highly touted" teammates taking a nap on defense in transition? I like this kid even more then I did before and knowing this information... I hope he busted up those turd Harrison twins real good.

I've interviewed Anthony numerous times and chatted with him once in person. He's not some arrogant punk who picks fights with teammates on the court. He reminds me so much of Melvin Ejim it isn't even funny. Both are great kids who have awesome grades. Both are well-spoken young men. It sounds to me like Anthony was being a senior leader and the other young man didn't like that. Then the fireworks went off.

Sounds like these Harrison twins weren't too fond of Anthony showing them up on the stat sheet or the fact that he wasn't afraid to call them out for being lazy on D. Apparently they have an issue with a kid showing some leadership.

I'll trust CW's judgement of character.

Then again, CW seemed to like me when we met a few years ago...:skeptical:

Odunsi just became my favorite recruit. The Harrison's are little Sophomores who think their **** don't stank.

let me just say that i was at the game and i witnessed the harrsion twin purposely not pass odunsi the ball on a fast break. odunsi then said something to the coach and after the harrsion twin lacked on defense he said something to odunsi. odunsi then proceeded to carry on with the game and the harrison twin began swinging

I like how a lot of the older people say that they dont make players as tough as they used to and then when something like this happens they don't want them around.

Say what you will about how the kid handles interviews, etc, but this sort of behavior, at least to me, shows there's a problem. Throwing down on the court, with your own teammates, has me nervous. With a lot of discipline cases coming together over the next few years at ISU, I sure hope Fred knows what he's doing.

You sound like my grandmother.

The kid got a punch thrown at him by some self serving teammate, what do you expect him to do? Lie down and take it? I for one am extremely pleased that he stood up to both of them and went toe to toe, nothing wrong with some grit and toughness.

Hi Hoopking, what do you think is going on with the posters on the board where the story originated who claimed to be court side and are saying this whole thing was Anthony's fault and the Anthony basically got his @$$ beat? Are those friends of the Harrison Twins or something?

I know this is my first post so you can take this with whatever you like but I was at the game and can confirm that the fight did happen. There has been a lot of back-and-forth between the parties this season but I can confirm, as another coach in the district, that Anthony is a good guy. He also is not a ball hog, as has been rumored here and at the UT message boards.

The Harrison twins' father has been relentless all season long about Anthony, calling him a ball hog and screaming at the coach and the referees. Tuesday's game he was in rare form. He routinely yells at Anthony on the court about hogging the ball...whatever, and it gets into the twins' heads. So when everyone hears this all game long, the twins started to get frustrated when Anthony passed to the other kid on the 3 on 1 rather than passing to Harrison. (It is not true that Anthony refused to pass the ball.)

Harrison and Anthony went back and forth and Anthony gave Harrison a little shove. Then Harrison punched Anthony and the other Harrison ran in and the fight was on.

Yes, Anthony shouldn't have reacted the way he did. I think he knows better. I've seen him play in our district for 4 years and never seen him react the way he did. Yes, if it was going to happen, it should have happened in practice. The difference is that the dad isn't in practice. He goes to the games and gets his sons all worked up and, frankly, got Anthony all worked up.

This shouldn't be an indictment of Anthony. He's a good kid who overreacted in an impossible situation. It bears mentioning that the Mr. Harrison has since been banned from the facility where the game and fight took place. Without his being an instigator, this never would have happened.

To the degree that this was the coach's fault -- there's only so much one can do to control a parent. It all happened pretty fast Tuesday night and there was nothing that could be done. Even the referees were powerless to prevent it. The parent fueled the fire and the coach can tell Anthony not to listen to it but it's hard to tell the twins to ignore their own father. I really don't even blame the Harrison twins. They're 15 or 16 and getting worked up by a father who's trying to live his life through them. The father is clearly to blame for this and he's going around on message boards calling Anthony a ball hog and trying to preserve his sons' reputation. He's the problem, though...not the coach, not the twins, and certainly not Anthony.

If you read the thread on that Hookem.com website - it is funny that the more posts that went up the closer we got to probably a fairly accurate account of what happened. These 2 posts sum it up pretty well.
The first - clearly a Harrison's fan - the second more impartial - but I think between the 2 you get a pretty good idea of what happened. Seems that it is based on tension that has been building between the 3. Odunsi didn't like what happened on a fast break - Odunsi gave a shoulder bump - harrison took a swing - blows exchanged - brother sucker punch - end.

realhoops1: (clearly a Harrisons fan but give some perspective on tension between them all)
Who leadss Travis in scoring? (Odunsi)
Who leads Travis in assist? (Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison)
Anthony seems like a good guy so it shocked everybody in attendance when it happened.
It's true that Aaron didn't pass him the ball and that ****** Anthony off big time.
It's no secret around these parts that the twins and anthony didn't get along.
Many games this year the twins and Anthony would freeze eachother out.
Ask anyone that has went to a Travis game and they would tell you that the twins LOVE TO PASS THE BALL.
They got upset with Anthony alot this year because he wouldn't return the favor.

And for the record me saying beat up was a bit dramatic.
Aaron and Anthony both stood toe to toe with Aaron getting in a few extra blows.
Not trying to be funny or promote fighting but I scored it for Aaron but not by much. Anthony got his in too.
It was Andrew who sucker punched Anthony like a coward while Anthony was fighting his brother.
The blow knocked Anthony to the ground and the fight was stopped.
I understand that they are twin brothers but the sucker punch was really a cheap shot.

richmondhorn:
I know that the Harrisons are very unselfish and talented players.
I have watched their games too as I am a senior at Travis High school.
But I said passing the ball between them and Odunsi, that is what started the fight.
There was definitely a rift between Odunsi and the Harrisons; everyone at Travis knew it.
When all the players would greet each other in the hall, they would ignore each other.
Is Anthony a ball hog? Maybe so, but not as much as you make him to be.
Odunsi is a senior and has been on this team for years now.
He probably felt the twins were taking over too much.
But he's a good, personable guy not a troublemaker.
Yes Anthony instigated the fight, i never said he didn't.
It wasn't a full on push but a rather a mean shoulder bump.
Words were exchanged and then harrison swung.
And yes the other Harrison took a cheapshot.
I probably went overboard on the Harrisons; they're good kids too and don't ball hog.
It's just a shame for all the seniors and Travis in general.

The "tension" that has been building has been created by the twins father. Not only has he planted in the twins' heads that Odunsi's a ball hog, but he goes to the games and screams at Anthony, the coach, and the referees. Like I said above, he's the one to blame -- not the players or the coach. It's pretty clear to me that "realhoops1" is Mr. Harrison trying to preserve his sons reputation.

Interesting because some of my kids have told me that Mr. Harrison has been telling people that there's no way that his kids are going to UT because it's a football school. It's not big time enough for them.

Wow. I feel sorry for those boys. I know plenty of parents just like Mr. Harrison. It is very sad that they live their lives' and gain their self-worth through their kids accomplishments. Sad indeed.
