Who will be the next full time head coach for the Kansas Jayhawks?

  • Les Miles 3/2
  • Troy Calhoun 4/1
  • Jedd Fisch 4/1
  • Dave Doeren 8/1
  • Bret Bielema 12/1
  • Neal Brown 20/1
  • Matt Canada 20/1
  • Jason Candle 20/1
  • Manny Diaz 20/1
  • Willie Fritz 20/1
  • Lane Kiffin 20/1
  • Clark Lea 20/1
  • Seth Littrell 20/1
  • Scott Satterfield 20/1

I don't agree with that. Les Miles has proven he can be a good head coach. Weiss never proved that. Not saying it would work at KU but Miles is a way better head coach then Weiss.
To me Les didn’t have an ability to adapt to the changes of college football and I thought that was kinda like Weis. I agree Les is definitely more proven, but I think KU needs an up and comer and not an older coach coming out of retirement who isn’t nearly as innovative.

I agree with that. Seems they need someone, like you said, an up and comer but probably also someone with head coaching experience. It has to be a hard job to get someone to take though.

What they need is Danny Mac 2.0.

Someone who can sell sunshine and dreams, excite the boosters for $$ shakedown, and get the fans excited so they show up, all while putting together something resembling an occasionally competent football team.

That's probably one way to go.

Another idea would be a 2019 college football version of Johnny Orr, if such a coach even exists. Proven success at a P5 school, taking what would be considered a step downward but getting a lucrative contract, is able to recharge enthusiasm during the process of rebuilding a program, charismatic. I'm sure that isn't as likely in CFB compared to CBB, but the first thing KU probably needs to do is inspire fans to give a rat's *** about FB.

If it is Les (or whoever) then they will have to hit the ground running hard. KU right now has exactly 1 recruit...talk about starting over.

What KU needs as coach is ME!! A middle aged man, who is only partially tired and willing to work. Knows football somewhat and hopes to find semi competent assistants. Willing to sign only a 7 year 14MM contract with full buyout. That is cheap today folks. I’m willing to work for KU, or anybody else dumb enough to hire me under those terms.

BTW, my oldest is a senior so I could double their recruits instantly. Is he D1, probably not, but it’s not like all their players are anyhow.

As a K-State fan, I'm fine with Miles in Lawrence. He'll make them competitive, something resembling competitive, but he'll never build a dominant program there. He's simply too old for that. And he's out of his territory. Someone like Mike McIntire who is about to be canned at CU, Rick Neuheisel, or Jim McElwain make more sense to me for Ku. But they hired an SEC AD who's likely to bring someone from that region.

That was pretty much Beatty.

They will just promote Les Miles record (141–55) and a national title to try and get the fans excited. He will pull some good recruits because of it, but man is the cupboard empty there.

I'm not sure it is going to matter. That program is such a mess you can't keep firing guys after 2 or 3 seasons and expect a quick turn around in results with the next hire. They have no fan support and between that and facilities it is a very tough place to recruit to when basketball is king there as well. The last head coach that lasted more than 3 seasons: Mangino from 02-09. Since the 2010 season they have a TOTAL of just 14 wins between 3 head coaches and 1 interim coach If the next guy is not given at least 4-6 years to bring in a roster of all his recruits it's just going to be the same cycle they have been stuck in for a long time. And I don't know how they can justify spending millions on facility upgrades only to put a poor product on the field in a stadium that is not even half full most games. People used to call ISU the toughest job in the country, I think Kansas is in a much worse spot than ISU ever was in recent memory.

Mangino's best season was 2007 and that was probably the first year every player on the roster were kids he recruited. Look at Iowa State, minus Chizik who left every coach we've had was given a fair amount of time to bring in his guys and try to turn around the culture. McCarney did that but just couldn't sustain it and Rhoads benefited from the talent Chizik brought in but couldn't sustain it with his own guys after they graduated. What Campbell has been able to do in such a short time is amazing but the fan support and facilities were already way ahead of where Kansas is at currently so it was just a matter of recruiting the talent and changing the culture in the locker room. The next Kansas coach is going to have to do something outside of the box in order to recruit talent and get the fanbase energized to support the program even if it is going to be rough going the first few years.

CydTracked, actually this is Beaty's 4th year so the last head coach that has had more than 3 years is this years coach. Also, again with the facilities comment, seems to be a popular statement on this board. KU ranked 25th in the nation with the football facilities according to 247 sports. They have new players housing and a new indoor facility that will be done for next years team. The stadium sucks but all the other stuff is very nice. If the next coach is Miles and I think that's big if, his success will depend on his assistants. If KU really is breaking the bank for assistants, they have a real chance to start turning things around. We'll see.

I agree with you. I was very appreciative of his time at OSU. He brought in a little swagger and actually stoked the 'hatred' against OU, which we loved. Who trash talks OU, especially when your team has a losing record?! Winning two straight years against them nudged us to a different trajectory. Granted, his famous "let 'er rip" led to a bludgeoning of epic proportions in years three and four, but damn, it was fun having a coach who had some fire and made us think we were meant for something other than the basement of the Big 12. Many people were pissed with how he left (apparently made the decision to leave for LSU at halftime of our bowl game against tOSU), and the chances he took with kids of, uh, questionable character. Gundy had to do some major cleanup in the year after Miles left.

But...yeah, he is old school, three yards and a cloud of dust offense. And he is not going to get the recruits at KU like the ones who anchored those solid LSU defenses. Maybe he will be a bridge to someone better, who knows.

Got me there, it is his 4th but he wasn't even given 4 years essentially as they already announced he's getting canned at the end of the season so he's been a lame duck coach this year. As for facilities ranking that surprises me because their stadium is a sh-hole with a crummy game day atmosphere. Been to 3 road games there, 2 of them the stadium was barely half full and the other was in 2007 when they went to the Orange Bowl and the place was packed. We're pretty spoiled with our tailgating atmosphere but KU's is practically non-existent as you basically have to park in someone's yard, in the parking ramp, or at a frat house. Been to KSU too, their stadium isn't the greatest either and they literally are out in the middle of nowhere but Bill Snyder somehow was able to recruit good talent there and sustain a winning program there. They have a somewhat decent game day atmosphere there with parking and tailgating nearly the stadium. Can't remember what year it was I went to a game there but was probably mid 2000's and I know the lot we parked in was supposedly park of a state park or something so you weren't supposed to drink but as long as you put it in a plastic cup the cops didn't bother you.

Would like to visit some more Big 12 stadiums at some point. Went to Nebraska and Mizzou a few times when they were in the Big 12 but have not ventured to any in the south yet. But I can safely saw that ISU compared to KU and KSU have a far superior game day atmosphere and the stadium improvements have only made that better. The north end zone project is really going to add to the overall quality of the facilities too. I remember when I was at ISU just getting that indoor practice facility built was a HUGE thing that coach Mac had been wanting for a long time and look at where we have come since then.

KU needs to hire a coach that can talk the University into knocking down that stadium and building a new one for the next coach after this guy get's fired.
