One of the top villains in cinema history, if you ask me. Louise Fletcher, who won an Oscar playing Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoos News, passed away at 88.

Wow. Brings back memories- a classic film. I haven't watched that movie in 30+ years, but probably watched 20 times during HS & College years.
I am going to really age myself. But in late 1970's cable was in its infancy and TV's still had a tuning knob. No way would my parents pay for Showtime, but after everyone went to bed I could mess with the tuning knob on our 1 TV and get a reasonable picture & audio.

She scared the bejeebers out of me as a kid. As I matured, I came to the conclusion there was a killer body under that nurse’s uniform. I was surprised by all her credits when I looked her up.
I will always remember her as Kai Winn in Star Trek DS9. She was fantastic at playing such an incredibly hateable character.
Beat me to it. She was great in that role, greedy, power hungry, and narcissistic, but still believed she was the good guy. But occassionally vulnerable or remorseful, great character and acted even better.
Rewatched that recently, and its about 1000x better than i remembered. That whole show is kind of a masterpiece. Gods honest truth, i think its the best of the Trek series by a lot.
I would always think to myself “I recognize that actress from somewhere “ when I’d see her on DS9. Never made the connection until I was looking at her credits last night.
Mind blown that I watched that, hated her, and didn’t realize who she was.
I think it is a forerunner to binge show epics like stranger things and GoT in some ways.
Such a great bad guy role. So well acted. In an amazing series with many great acting turns.
Her role is a lot like the corrupt religious leader on GoT but you are always guessing if she really believes the dogma or is just wielding personal power.
