Not Enough for the Haters

How can Rhoads say the program is going in the right direction when we can't even compete with teams?

We are never going to compete with OU and the top 2-3 teams in this conference.....ever. Not consistently anyway. EVeryone needs to get that through their head, if you don't like it, root for someone else. It's reality. There is a reason the series is 5-87 in favor of OU.

Anyone drawing conclusions about whether CPR is doing a good job or not should not be referencing Baylor, TCU, or OU. It is simply too much to ask to compete with those teams annually. There are 3-4 games every year that are throw away games, always have been and always will be. Sorry, that is reality.

For this year judge him off UNI, Toledo, Texas, Iowa, KU, KSU and WV. I would say he has three good games, two bad...so far. And the what happens in KSU and WV determine what happens.

This year...OU, TT, OSU, OU and TCU...they simply don't matter. Nick Saban could show up and coach us and we aren't winning those games. They are throw away games where you just hope no one gets hurt and maybe you have a punchers chance, but 99 times out of 100 those teams are going to destroy ISU. Why people want to nitpick a glorified scrimmage game like OU I have no idea. Everyone knows going in on both sides what is going to happen.

Threads like these just make me sad. It's like most of our fans think we have no right to expect more than 4 wins a year because "that's just the way it is". All I know is my friends that are Hawkeye fans hope CPR stays here forever!

I don't know why. They've had more success against every other coach in ISU history. I want CPR out but I'm not going to begrudge him for his record against teh hoks.

I want to to do better than we are but I also look at the past plus the challenges at ISU and place realistic expectations on it. Yeah it would be great to win the Big 12 every year but it's not realistic.

It's like my racing. Do I want to win every race I go to? Hell yes, but I know that with the level of competition I race against and how my budget compares to theirs that me winning every race isn't realistic.

My god you love to use extremes. Winning more than 3 games isn't like winning the Big 12 like how you are trying to spin it

We're not trying to win every game. And what you're doing is vastly different from what we're talking about. Not analogous, IMO.

Who ever it is that is brought in, whenever that happens, I just hope that he can change the culture surrounding ISU football. A football equivalent of Johnny Orr would be awesome. Someone who could turn the culture around 180 degrees from what it is now. We also need someone who can take the next step in recruiting / player development.

Its hard when your AD seems to have 0 interest in changing the culture. He just reinforces the "little brother" attitude.

While you may not agree with isufbcurt, he is right. There are three of four teams we will never be able to compete with consistently. They have better recruits and more money. That's a fact jack.

You expect to still be in the race though, right? If ISU's football season were anything like an auto race, for a lot of our games, we'd have been black flagged in the second quarter and sent home for it not being safe for everyone else on the field.

No one here is expecting to beat OU regularly or win the Big 12 every other year. It would be nice to stay on the lead lap though once in a while.

I'm a Paul Rhoads supporter until the Day I Die. In the words of my girl Taylor Swift, "Haters are gonna hate, hate, hate." CPR won some big in-state recruits in the past few years and they are paying off now. Not to mention the hire of Louis Ayeni. And the big time juco recruits. Listen haters, Paul Rhoads is here stay.

How do you feel about Rhoads now?
