Norms last year in IC??

Not everyone wants to be like Joe Paterno.

Norm's an old man now. Wouldn't blame him if he wanted to relax a little more.

Yeah, I think people knew this time would be coming soon.

He has been great for a long time.

Saw one guy mentioned McCarney as a possible replacement. I wouldn't be scared of whoever else they bring in...whether it's a current assistant, the DL coach for the Cardinals or Bobby Diaco (I know he has a BCS job somewhere as DC), but I WOULD be concerned if Mac went there.

Also noticed on that site that AJ Derby has already been moved to LB. I could have told them that he wasn't a QB. Got outplayed big-time in the state championship game by the kid from Marshalltown. Good athlete, though.

Glad to see him gone.....

Do I really need a sarcasim pirate?

One of the handful of defensive geniuses in college football today.

Doesn't he have some medical issues? Can't blame him at this point.

I'm sure Kirk has been thinking about this for awhile.

I think he has lost some toes to diabetes, not to mention other old age stuff. I have a feeling that this has been something on th verge for the last 2-3 years, since the health problems really picked up. I don't doubt that someone internally has been and will be prepped to take over pretty smoothly.

I gotta admit, I've been a fan of Norm Parker. Fun to watch his defense and he should be going out with a pretty good group this year. Congrats to him on a real fine career.

For the record, Ferentz was asked about this in his press conference and he said Norm hadn't said anything to him about this being his last year.

I have to say, the worst part in this all would be no more Norm interviews and quotes. The guy is CLASSIC! When asked last summer at a I-Club event if he would be back for another season, he said he would, because "my 401k is in bad shape, and my wife hates me."

This would be good news for cyclone fans here. That guy can run a defense with the best of them. If true, I'm happy that he would be getting out because he feels it's time rather than having it because of more medical complications.

Iowa is stacked at QB. In fact they are also stacked with good young guys at LB. He has a better chance of playing at LB. I'm sure the coaching staff recognized that.

Norm Parker's last season?

Sorry if this was mentioned previously but did anyone else hear M&M yesterday afternoon talking to Rob Howe (sp) from Hawkeye insider?

Howe mentioned that he thought this was NP's last year.

IA fans how nervous are you that NP's replacement isnt quite as good at creating a scheme to give IA's D the advantage.

IMO Parker is one of the top coordinators in the game and is hard to beat when it comes to preparing for the other team, especially in bowl games.

Please dont turn this into a "I never listen to M&M, I hate them thread".

Thoughts?

Re: Norm Parker's last season?

That has been the talk for quite a while. Parker is one of the best in the business. They'll probably look internally for a replacement whenever he leaves. I would guess they would want to keep a similar scheme.
