No single game tickets means not ever!!

Would be intersting if Iowa retaliates. What is the typical visiting school alotmetn? Also, this will drive up the scalpers tickets. But, I believe JP idea is a good one. Tickets will be sold.

Nebraska will be included I assume.
 
I think you might be misunderstanding me. We're pretty much all in agreement that a package deal would ultimately be acceptable and most likely what will happen. I don't think anybody expects 2007 to sell 45K season tickets.

My retort was that if he follows through with the season ticket only proposal and allows 20K+ seats to go unsold, that's unaccepable.

JP is doing what all good athletic administrators do and that's bring revenue to the department.

That's 100% right, and part of that isn't leaving a million dollars out there.

I'll also add that although it might not put ISU in the red compared last year's numbers, running off 8K season ticket holders ISN'T in the best interest of ISU athletics. So that's really kind of a absent point.

I doubt he'll run that many season ticket holders off. My guess is 90% of them will take this in stride and be back.

All he said today was that they wouldn't sell single ticket games right? He never said they wouldn't sell two game tickets?

i think jamie is playing a wait and see attitude here...i think he is waiting to see if cyclone nation takes his sublimibnal challenge to buy out the stadium with season tickets...will it happen...probably not....thus releasing tickets to boosters a week or so before the game...just my thought

Wouldn't you consider a season ticket as every game and not a package. If he sticks to this and sells it only as a full season, this will be quite embarassing as we'll have buttloads of empty seats for even our big games.

He also says, "We recognize that we could have empty seats. That is simply a risk worth taking." Doesn't sound like a bluff to me or something that he's going to back off of when this fails.

I have to agree with Bryce on this one. This idea stinks.

What about having the product sell itself? Why not give that a try first?
 
just pony up and buy your season tickets cyclones!.... i understand some people can only make one game a season but season tickets are fairly cheap and support the university majorly

So, if you can only make 1 game a season, you should still by season tickets? That's ridiculous to expect someone to do that.

Consider me rubbed wrong...which is saying something, because I'm generally happy with any rubbing at all.
 
IS HE LOSING IT!!!!!! THAT HAS TO BE THE DUMBEST THING HE HAS DONE!!! i mean seriously, some ppl dont have enough money to buy season tickets... and might want to go to a iowa game.. wow this is just plain dumb.. i really hope he does not go through with this

Historically if you can't directly buy an Iowa game ticket, you'd pay around $100 bucks (eBay, scalpers, etc) to see the game. Why not pony up the extra $25 and buy endzone season tickets?

I would assume you will have to buy a ticket to the Kent State game to get one for the Iowa game later.

As I've said in another thread, I had season tickets with a group of people last year (8 to be exact) and that number is already down to four, my wife and I and another couple. To expect the hiring of a new coach to have that great of an impact I think is a bit of a reach. Maybe some people have shorter memories than I do, but last football season was downright depressing.

BTW, what was the deal with the billboard thing you describe??

I can't believe you missed billboardgate, but Pollard put up a billboard in eastern Iowa saying "it's a cyclone state" that drove some Hawks batty.
 
My tailgate groups started out at 10, got up to 14ish and is now down to 6.

Some of that had to do with prices - more directly with young families, time, and disposable income for football games. None have really left DIRECTLY because of recent price hikes under JP.

To expect the hiring of a new coach to have that great of an impact I think is a bit of a reach.

Well it did quite a bit over in Hilton. But I agree. And given there was such a spike last season, I think it's unlikely that holding back the Iowa game will do much more.
 
I agree that it helped in Hilton, but there were only 400 or so more season tickets sold last season as opposed to this season. Plus, adding the 100 dollar season tickets we're talking about taking two people for the same price as 1 football season ticket and not having to pay parking prices among other things. So I'd say selling only a few hundred more basketball season tickets at 100 dollars a pop is a lot easier than selling 5000 more football tickets (as is the stated goal) at 200 dollars a pop.

And before anybody says anything about the 125 dollar season tickets, those were sold out last year. That's not where the increased ticket sales are going to come from, they are going to come from the higher dollar tickets.
 
Only 400? Really? I stand corrected then. I was under the impression that there were several thousand more.

Last year, the endzone seats you are talking about were $99. So there was still a 25% increase in those tickets. But you are right...that's not where the money is coming from. But they still did increase in price, just like every other ticket.
 
To those who buy season tickets regardless, who really cares as long as you'll be there? I will guarantee you that the Iowa/ISU game will be packed to the brim one way or another. Pollard is not dumb, he'll find creative ways to sell those tickets. Right now by playing hard ball you are forcing Iowa fans to pay for ISU season tickets if they want to be sure they are going to the game and I think that is genius. At some point those remaining Iowa game tickets are going to be offered up to NCC members or packaged up with other games or something because you could probably sell that single game ticket for $100 and still sell the place out.

Pollard knows about numbers and needing to raise money and he won't let empty seats go as wasted opportunities to make money. He isn't the first AD in the country to do this kind of thing either so it's not like he's setting a risky precident.
 
Buy a $350 season ticket to attend one game - a be "thankful" for it. I love this "Pony up" crap. There is no more idiotic statement that could be uttered. I already "pony" plenty, as do most here. And the stadium remains half empty. And not eveybody has cash falling out of their pockets. I'm starting to wonder if somebody making 250K a year like JP realizes that?

If they're not available after season ticket sales - fine. That's the way it should be. But to hold it hostage....

I'd like to sit on the 50 as well, but at least I got into the game as I could afford.

I just don't think some of you realize how DUMB this is and how bad it looks.

But same ole-same ole. The school can do no wrong, Just shut up, take it and keep writing checks with no input.
