Nick Babb Outlook

I'll be pretty surprised if all those guys are playing for Iowa State next year. I expect 1-2 guards to either 1. leave for the NBA, 2. transfer, 3. de-commit, 4. be injured, or 5. not be granted a 5th year of eligibility.

Add to that that 1 or 2 guys who won't be ready and/or are just out competed for minutes and there you go. I doubt we'll have a bunch of guards who we want to play against WVU but just can't find the minutes for.

All of those things will happen. Ernst will have to play point.

Babb at PG? Doubt it. He'll mostly play the 3 just like his brother did. And he will play.

I'm not talking about huge minutes with Monte back, but I think Prohm said he was a guy that could play some point if needed. I think he's a better ball handler than Chris was.

Uhhh...1. Ok Monte could leave, 2. who? Long/Thomas/Cooke? 2 seniors and a guy whos already used a redshirt?, 3. We don't currently have any guards who could "decommit", 4. Shut your mouth, 5. Only one guy is in this situation and he will get a 5th year.

Monte and Naz are the only 2 who I would put at less than 100% and if neither are here, we're in for a long season.

Like it or not College Basketball is a big business. Keep recruiting the best. It's survival of the fittest. If people want to quit or transfer so be it. This is not a popularity contest. Nobody gave me "pretty points" when I sat my *** on the bench.

The most important question: will all the ladies (and many dudes) fawn over him as much as they did Chris?

I'm straight as they come but Chris Babb was one delicious slice of human.

Had to do some professional Photoshop on that to make sure it wasn't deleted by the mods.

Who's going to leave though. I doubt Hallice or Babb are going to since they've already transferred. Naz and Matt aren't. Jackson and Long committed knowing the situation. Monte could go pro but I don't think he will.

I don't know, but I just don't see that many guards staying here. Just a guess; I could easily be wrong.

Umm what? The only ones who could potentially leave are Morris to go Pro, or Long not being granted a medical RS which he will. I guess injury could happen, but really?

Every one of them could leave/not come. Some more likely than others, but none are RS seniors except Naz , though I don't know if he's graduated or not. I was mostly thinking about Naz's recovery re injury.

I have my guesses but I wont speculate on individual players, but I don't put any as 100%. Even if each is 90% staying it adds up for 7 guards.

And maybe 'de-commit' wasn't the proper term, but if either Jackson or Long decide they don't want to come as they thought Naz and Morris would be gone I doubt we make them come anyway.

Clearly you don't understand how this works. The only ones who "could" leave are likely starting, so why? The guys who have already RS/transferred in can't leave without losing a year. The new guys have already signed so they aren't leaving at least this year. It would take something like quiting basketball, which I also don't see.

So who?

-Babb could leave, sit one to play one
-Cooke could leave, sit one to play one
-Thomas could leave, redshirt one to play one
- Morris can go pro
- Naz can grad transfer
- Long and Jackson can be released to go wherever they want

Most of those are highly unlikely, but they are possible.

No. None of those guys would leave other than Morris to go Pro(which he isn't)or Naz because he can't get a waiver(which he will), Those who transferred wouldn't do it, they hated already having to sit out once. It's not normal for someone who's going to see a lot of D1 minutes leave.

Sure it's possible, but not likely at all.

I don't know how much you guys follow basketball, but typically transfers are freshmen or sophomores who haven't used their RS and have been recruited over or aren't seeing the court for whatever reason. That or coaching changes.

Is there a chance Long redshirts?[/QUOTE]
From what I've read (maybe even here) Long (the new one) is about 6'5" and is very proud that he is a lock-down defender. And a lefty so his dominant hand will be perfect against right handed shooters.

Allen, Babb, Luscious, Clyburn, McKay, Burton. Yeah, none of those guys transferred because they weren't playing. Hell, only one transferred from a bad program.

That said, Probably only one guard leaves. Two max.

SDW transferred after using his RS (though he seemed to have gotten some kind of waiver that I never heard the specifics of). If a player expected to play fewer than 5 min/game, do you think they'd see that as that much favorable to sitting out a year and than being in a more favorable position?

D Williams was let out of his LOI and went to St. John's, so that's obviously a possibility. And there is the possibility of the recruiting assistant coach leaving again as well.

I don't see any single scenario of attrition as being extremely likely. But a lot of small chances adds up to a decent chance of one happening. Like I said, I expect 1 or 2 of those guys not to be here. Could be Morris, maybe someone else.

Tell you what, if Morris, Naz, Thomas, Jackson, Cooke, Babb, and Long are all eligible and able to play on the first day of the Big 12 season I'll change my signature to 'Rustshack was right' for the rest of the season.

McKay left because he was buried on the depth chart and didn't like how he was used in that system. Burton lost his playing time. Allen and Lucious were kicked off the team. Coaching changes and wanting to go to a winning team is normal for transferring, those don't apply here. We have the same coach, we are a winning team. Last year would have made more sense.

Williams was let out because he committed to Fred and Matt, who left. Apples to oranges. SDW is a prime example of what I said, none of which applies to the current players.

The most likely guard to transfer is Ashton, and that's only if he's not OK with going back to walk-on status. I hate saying names but one of our two forwards would transfer before the guards, which sucks because we need forwards more than guards but that's just the talent level of the team, and why the staff is likely trying to find another good transfer forward to bring in.

Transferring would make sense for both Cooke and Ashton. They will be passed by Jackson and Babb. At best, that gives them a chance for playing time in two years but we then have to assume no one else will be brought in and pass them.

Of course, they could get better and compete with the two guys mentioned which I would like to see because it gives us experience and depth for the next couple years. I think both bring some things to the table that could be useful, especially Cooke. I think he just needs a little confidence.

One thing we don't talk about is that it's not necessarily a guarantee that Naz fully recovers. Say something happens to he and Monte. Then we probably actually need at least one of them. What would make sense, even if they don't see time in their future this year, is to play this year out, graduate, and if they're still buried, then leave.
