Niang's Fading Post Presence

I get wanting more touches for Georges inside, but that surely won't be happening tonight, will it? Texas has so much length inside, that I'm guessing we'll invert the offense and Georges will be outside again alot more. Otherwise, I'd be all for it.

Pure speculation but could Niang be trying to showcase his perimeter game since he would have to play the 3/4 in the NBA? I'm not even trying to call the kid out because it could be subconsciously, but I agree with twocoach that he has yet to really get active in the paint.

That is where he thrives. He needs to be inside first to open up the outside game.

Niang is a very good college player....he will never be an NBA player. He just isn't physically capable of guarding NBA caliber 3 or 4's. He would have a tough time getting most of his shots off as well. I'm sure he will make some money playing somewhere overseas.

Which is exactly why he needs to be off the perimeter. His ability to drive, which was actually where he was the most turnover prone anyway, has been compromised because of the quicker defenders. I agree with the standpoint that it's affected him, I just think that's all the more reason to be on the post. If you have a smaller player on you it should conceivably make it that much easier to get position.

There is defense in the NBA? Maybe I am watching the wrong station...

I think they are just getting used to playing half court with both McKay and Niang on the floor. When Georges was playing with Ejim last year, Melvin was a threat from the perimeter. McKay does many good things but he is not an offensive threat on the perimeter and spends most of his time down low clogging up that area for Georges' post moves. We did better last night with Georges working from the high post, McKay clearing out to baseline when Georges taking it low from high post. McKay can cut in along the baseline for a pass then if his defender picks up Georges.

If ISU played the teams we do with an 11 second faster shot clock and 8 minutes more game time, and only had NBA caliber shooters on both rosters, we'd regularly be scoring 110-130 on these 'great' NCAA defenses.

Regular season NBA D is better than college, NBA playoff D is light years better than NCAA.

Well, Georges got a ton of touches in the paint. And it seemed to help him with the 3 point shots. Love the fact that we destroyed a great defensive team like Texas (that Barnes said was trying to shut down the middle) by going right at them. Fred put in some new plays, such as the Niang lob to McKay. And put the gameplan together in 48 hours. Need to do it again next Monday!

When I watched the KU-UT game I knew that Georges would be able to carve it up.
