Next year's starters

We desperately need someone around 7 foot. It just seems really hard to compete without a 7 footer unless you have extremely athletic "bigs" who are 6'9" or shorter.

I agree. We really need a big time post in this class. I don't want to see all of our talent at guard that is coming wasted in the next few years because we miss on all of our post recruits.

I don't buy the excuse that posts are too much of a gamble it of HS and that they take too long to develop. Other teams find a way to land impact bigs, so we should expect to as well.

If we're capable of landing Niang, Morris, Thomas and Custer, I see no reason why we can't land a true post player that is a top 100 recruit as well.

Haven't looked at their roster much; will they have a lot of guys returning from this year's squad?

Potentially their starting 5. Probably one or two go pro though. They will still easily be a top 25 team when we play them.

Michigan will be tough next year. Right now, only Robinson (FR) and Burke (SO) are projected as first-round draft choices if they go. Hardaway (JR) may declare, but he is at best a 2nd round pick if at all. The only senior to get significant minutes is Vogrich, and he averages less than 10 minutes per game, even after starting 6 games earlier. On top of that, their incoming class is a top 15 rated class.

Their starting lineup of late consists of 2 frosh, one sophomore, and 2 juniors.

Next years starters: Niang Gibson Ejim Thomas Morris when Jones comes in he'll take Morris spot.

To add a little something to the discussion for consideration:

Steve Schwanda@alleyesonuhoops Iowa State Commit Monte Morris with a triple double tonight, 21 pts 11 ast and 10 steals... He claims he even had a dunk

This was from tonight...the 4th.

Oh my, next year might be a "rebuilding" year but it will sure be fun to watch Monte and Thomas grow together. An all freshman backcourt is going to be fun.

A little more fodder for the discussion:

Travis Hines@TravisHines21 Unofficially, Matt Thomas with 23 points (9-17), six boards, a steal, assist, block and two TOs. You guys are gonna like this kid.

Travis Hines@TravisHines21
That's at the half, by the way.

Another note....if you are a fan of ISU MBB, and have Twitter, but do not follow Travis.......that is a huge mistake.

Update:
Travis Hines@TravisHines21 Matt Thomas finished with 43 points as Onalaska rolls to a win. More from me later.

Travis Hines@TravisHines21 Matt Thomas finished with 43 points (16-31) with 14 boards, four assists and five steals at the #twolvesshootout. I'll have highlights soon.

This is a 4 game showcase. Other featured players of interest.....Clayton Custer (ISU 2014), Reid Travis (2014 ISU offer), Jarvis Johnson (2015 ISU offer...sister Tyseanna is signed for next year for BF), Tyus Jones, Rashad Vaughn (2014 ISU offer), and Peter Jok (2013 Iowa Commit). Custer's team is up next against Travis' team.

I don't understand why we can't land a good post. I understand we are a guard heavy team, but anyone that watched Royce last year can see we use our bigs just fine. In fact, the guard threat would be so high, would give our bigs plenty of opportunity to score. Being our thinnest position, I am shocked a quality big guy wouldn't want to come and be a big player on this team.

Quality bigs are so rare nowadays that when there is one, every school in the country are going after them. Just look at this big from Michigan that we offered a couple weeks ago. There are so many quality schools going after him like Duke and Michigan that it will be tough to pull off.

There are so many more guards to recruit in high school right now.
