Don't see that happening with Solo, he'll be our anchor on defense. Also don't see Jacobson being supplanted in the starting lineup. Limited defending bigger people but still more bulk than Griffin or Conditt and better offensively than both, at least based on what we've seen so far. If Griffin or Conditt are now better offensively, that would be great but still not enough to replace Jacobson who is a senior and has more big game experience.
I would agree that Jacobson shouldn't be supplanted from the starting lineup, but can he guard an athletic 4 well? He can be effective against centers, but I wonder if his footspeed will be there when guarding the perimeter. And if it isn't there then he needs a shot blocker behind him.
I thinking the glaring worry this team will have is guard play and the shooting % leaks show that. I love Haliburton but he will be growing through the season as someone who has to lead and make plays instead of facilitating the whole game. A big change like that takes a lot of time and he needs impact players on the perimeter to make that possible. I am hoping Bolton and Nixon can be consistent playmakers to pull attention away from him. I have seen nothing to tell me Young will be anything other than a rebounder/pick setter on offense so Jacobson will shoulder a lot of the offensive load to draw defenders off the perimeter. I think for all our sakes, I really hope some incoming freshmen or Conditt can hit some serious strides this season or it's going to be rough.
Agree. It’s a guard's game. Except for Haliburton our guards most recent play was inefficient and of poor shooting. Further, Haliburton, our best off-ball shooter, will not as often be off-ball. Improvement should happen, but the schedule doesn’t allow for much of a learning curve.
I think there are the pieces to win, albeit in more via defense and rebounding. However, the leaks haven’t suggested those are aspects we can lean on.
I think Prohm wants Griffin to earn the 4 spot. During his recruiting, both he and his coach (the one that loved Prohm iirc) said they selling him on the Deonte Burton role. The Rob Gray article from the other day quoted Prohm as telling Robinson ZG was "one of his kind of guys".

I think this team gets a lot better if Zion can surpass Jacobson as a starter. Not hating on Jacobson, but I think we have seen him pretty close to his ceiling. The ceiling on Zion is a lot higher in my opinion.
Same could be said about Conditt, but I don't think anyone knows the ceiling on Solomon with his injuries so far.
Why stop there? This team gets a lot better if Jackson can surpass the other guards and be a starter.
Zion’s ceiling at ISU is likely to be about what Jacobson gave ISU last year. Zion should improve this year, but Jacobson has improved every year in college and he’s at an all conference level if that continues this season.
With Jacobson, Young, Conditt, and Zion, the frontcourt won’t be our downfall, but it’ll be a convenient target of frustrations.
Main thing to take away here is that Prohm has matchup options for a verity of styles. The Jacobson/Young front line will be used vs the Kansas and KSU's and he can pivot to the Conditt/Griffin vs the Oklahoma's and OSU's who go small.
In the end all 4 will play and I could see each splitting between 15-25 minutes with the duo getting the "starters minutes" depending on the lineups they see throughout the game.
Obviously it would be ideal for Griffin and Conditt to make the jump and be the starters moving forward since their offensive ceiling is higher than Solo and Mike but, hard to predict that right now.
Tyrese will be next year's fall guy. His style of play isn't what most people think of from a star player. People will be expecting him to replace all the scoring from last year, simply because he's our best player. That isn't realistic based on the type of player he is, he's going to take good shots, mostly when he's open. He's not going to create much for himself off the dribble or be successful in ISO plays. It'll be a bit like Monte's SO and JR year or NWB last year, when people wanted them to be a player they weren't ready to/capable of being yet but Tyrese doesn't have guys like Georges, Ejim, Shayok, LW, etc... to take the focus off of him. I don't agree with it but I think he'll be the one the pitchforks come after....
The key to this team will be Bolton, Nixon, Jackson, Grill, and Lewis. At least three of these guys need to play at a very high level. I'm not worried about Haliburton and I am confident that we can get good minutes from the 4 post players.
Well, teams generally go as their high usage (best?) players go, particularly at guard.
I don’t expect Haliburton will do things he can’t, but perhaps you’re correct, and those with outlandish expectations for him will antagonize that attribute.I think the fall guys will be Bolton or Nixon, who are seemingly more willing to be high usage, low efficiency types.
Do we really know what Zion's ceiling is? He had to adjust to his growth spurt and size differences. The fact that he could dribble well and play underneath the basket while being able to shoot 3's is a plus. He may take awhile to get to his ceiling, but he could be great.

Adjust to his growth spurt? Are you thinking Conditt? He’s been 6’6” for awhile and didn’t have more of a growth spurt than guys like Jacobson or Young.
Hypothetical and subjective ceilings are valuable in message board lineup threads, but it’s unlikely Zion will significantly surpass 11 and 6 as a junior.
I think a lot of it has to do with sheer athleticism. Speed, 3-cone etc. You put Jacobson through a combine with Zion, and I am guessing Zion comes away a winner in pretty much every category.
And if Zion can match Jacobson's shooting, defensive prowness, toughness, etc. then he will most likely turn into a better player as well.
