Who does everyone think we'll have in the line-up next year? Here's my thoughts:

125: Ryak Finch
133: Ben Cash
141: Max Mayfield
149: Joey Cozart
157: Mike Moreno
165: Andrew Sorenson
174: Chris Spangler
184: Kyven Gadson
197: Jerome Ward
HWT: Kyle Simonson

This assumes that Mayfield can make the cut. If he can't then I don't know who we'll have at 141. Though it would be great if Cozart could make 141 and Weatherman at 149, but I don't see that happening. 133 wil still be a hole, but everywhere else we will look a lot better. Much better dual team and decently better tournament team.

133 wil still be a hole,

any explanation why this wasn't addressed? I know we've had some guys leave for one reason or another but seems like a program of our stature should be able to fill a huge void with a solid recruit when the opportunity arises.

My guess is we expected Long at 133 so didn't try to recruit anyone to fill it that would be redshirting this year. He wasn't kicked off the team until after the recruiting season was over. After the none of the JuCo's that Jackson brought in to try to patch the lineup this year turned out, I'm guessing he'll be gunshy to bring in a transfer, though I doubt he'll turn one down if somebody catches his eye.

Well if that's the case that's the saddest answer of all. Jackson was counting on a guy that he booted to earn his way back on. I don't follow wrestling that closely but I do know when Long's issues occurred and I know we signed wrestlers well after that date. You really are an apologist for this program.

jackson and longs teammates were counting on him having his **** together enough not to be kicked off. after that, there was a possibility of him earning his way back, but nothing was guaranteed.

you don't follow wrestling, but assume judoka is an apologist. get a clue.

and long's issues occurred the moment he set foot in ames and didn't stop until he left. kid is a complete knothead.

KJ did address it and he is bringing in Nik Pena from CA. Not sure if he will redshirt next year or wrestle. They'll have to see how ready he is. Before jumping to conclusion why not try to have all the information first.

125: Finch
133: Cash/Pena/Jones
141: Goetl/Mayfield
149: Mayfield/Weatherman/Cozart
157: Moreno/Weatherman
165: Sorenson
174: Spangler
184: Gadson/Ward
197: Ward/Gadson
HWT: Simonson/Gibson

I asked the question in my first post and responded to the answer I got. I don't claim to have the information, the OP did. That's why I said if that's the case.

Thank you for the info on Pena.

He was booted after the recruiting season.

Any reason Goettl won't be at 133? It was the weight he wrestled at the exhibition, and he destroyed Cash in that match. He and Finch would be much better than what we have right now.

Logan Molina committed 2 weeks ago.

As for 133, Gooseeman said we have 8 new guys coming in I'm guessing somebody will be their to compete.

he was booted after last years signing period-when we were going for depth guys like jones-not starters.

I just read an article dated 12-09-10 on Long's transfer and a link to national signing day 2-02-11. Saying we would every recruit a kid to be a non-starter is just sad. When you have 9.9 schollies to offer everyone that gets money comes in with the expectation they will be a starter at some point.

at some point yes. we threw him to the wolves this year-he shouldn't have been forced to be out there as a true freshman. he should have rs'd, then backed up long for 2 more years, and been ready to start as an rs jr and sr. he was no where close to being a starter this year, and he wasn't expected to be.

and trying to fill a slot in 2 months time is not an easy task. there are only so many quality d1 wrestlers at any weight-my guess is most of the elite were committed.

Goetl wrestled 141 during the opens this year. Sometimes they wrestle a weight up so it may be a possiblity. We'll find out soon enough.

Anyone we bring in this year won't be in the lineup until 2012, Not next year. At the time that recruiting was being done for this year's redshirt class Long was still on the team.

Also, as far as not recruiting non-starters, do you really think we don't have walk-ons who know they probably will never start (or maybe as seniors)? Having quality work out partners is important and guys like Cash and Jones likely came on with that kind of expectations.

Are you just trolling, or are you really this unaware of everything there is to do with Wrestling?

I think Jackson is a top notch person. Willing to kick off one of your best wrestlers because it's the right thing to do is RIGHT.

However, in sports, doing the right thing doesn't produce national championships. Not saying it can't be done, just that Kevin will have to be that much better than the rest, including Cael, who took the easy route and puts winning above doing what's right.

125 - Finch -the real deal, potential 4 time AA
- Backup Jones
133 - Cash
Schlosser could wrestle as a true freshman, need to see how bad the year off hurt him. Pena will Redshirt for the future.
141 - Goettl - not sure he's ready for D1 yet.
Not sure on Mayfield
149 - Mayfield and Weatherman to battle it out.
157 - Moreno - has the potential to be very good if he can manage the weight cut
If not Weatherman if he isn't cutting to 149
165 - Sorenson - if healthy a National title contender
174 - Spangler - if healthy a National title contender
184 - Ward - Not sure on his ability to make the cut back down. (That's the plan)
Shafer will be a good backup and push whoever's there
197 - Gadsen - if healthy has potential to AA
backup Ward, Voelker, Hawes
Hwt - Simonson being pushed by Gibson

The only true freshman I see possible wrestling is Schlosser at 133 or 141

There was a path for Long to get back on the team, just like Montell Marion came back for Iowa in the second semester. Long decided to get out of Ames, otherwise he would have been starting for us second semester.

I have a dumb question as a non-wrestling guy. Why do they name the top 8/6 as AA? It is not like we name 8 tight ends as AA. Why so many in wrestling?
