I wish they could move the women's tourney somewhere other than Municipal. I know it is nice to be able to walk down the street for the men's venue, but Municipal is a piece of crap. I swear when you look up while inside you can imagine stuff falling down into the crowd. I would rather go to Kemper and make the trip in between than be stuck at Municipal again!! :eek:
 
i dunno- it's kinda cool with the history and all, even if it's not in the greatest shape. It's easier to fill up than Kemper will be too
 
I guess ever since we had our van broke into it has reminded me of a BAD place. The year it happened there was broken glass all over.
 
I wish they would fix up Muni, but the thing about Muni is that it has nice big padded seats, not like the narrow hard plastic crap you get in new stadiums and in renovations. Also, Municipal has a lot of great memories for ISU women's basketball.

Kemper just stinks in my opinion. Means you have to drive from your hotel or ride a bus, nothing around it anymore. It also means locals driving lose their parking, and rack up parking fees when going back and forth from women's to men's games.

Well as someone from KC I will tell you security down by Kemper is much worse and is a place that many people in Kansas City will not go to just because of that. Other than the American Royale, Kemper was a big mistake for KC.

With the signage and architecture inside, Muni has kind of an Empire State Building feel to it. Wouldn't hurt to spend a few mil to really fix it up, though.

What police? When I called about our van getting broken into, the police on the phone just gave me a case number to turn into my insurance company.

Hence why they need more help. My 4 buddies and I were carjacked at gunpoint down there, and they were some of the nicest, down to earth people but they struggled with being underfunded a lot. It was very obvious when we went to the precinct. That's pathetic if you want to put the blame on the police for that. This isn't Des Moines or Iowa.

The ironic thing about that is that Kemper was the one with stuff falling from the ceiling, literally, anytime it rained parts of the roof would fall to the ground inside. I think they had to spend a lot of money on Kemper to redue the roof, i'll look for an article.

You know, I will have to talk with some of my friends in the know on KC downtown development to see what the situation is with Muni. I think the problem is that it is owned by the city and run by the convention center and visitors bureau, and I know they had to fight hard to get upgrades and new carpet for the convention center lately. Losing the Future Farmers of America annual convention hurt them quite a bit as well. The Sprint Center, Convention Center expansion, and new perfoming arts center have been the attention of the city for a while now. I remember looking at the Light District plans in 2000 or so when there was a group fighting for it back in the late nineties. It only took a decade. Also right now the Mayor is in big big trouble. His wife called a woman a mammy and refuses to work without his wife at his side so he works from home now. The people of KC voted for Light Rail, and he is refusing to let it happen. So, many things in the development mode down there are up in the air. Love the town, but like all big cities, politics can get in the way of progress sometimes.
