Next Year’s Lineup

I agree this is strange. The young guys all wrestle the opens first semester so participation of those would drop way off. Are they trying to kill the opens at the beginning of the season? Are they trying to make this a one semester sport? Can a freshman wrestle unattached in first semester opens then just not be eligible to wrestle attached second semester? Will Opens like Cliff Keen and Midlands continue to fall off? Lots of questions.

They get 5 attached events for the whole year, and no unattached events in the first semester.

So you'll probably see freshmen wrestle attached in 2-3 early opens, save the other 2-3 attached events for potential dual fill-ins, and then compete unattached in smaller second-semester opens.

NOW I follow. Thanks for explaining it to us slow guys ;)

Official June prediction for our March 2023 lineup:

125: Kysen
133: One of the Frost twins
141: Swiderski
149: Paniro
157: Cam Robinson
165: Carr
174: Gaitan
184: Coleman
197: Bastida
Hwt: Schuyler

4 true freshman, but a lot of potential there

Guys don’t really hit many opens these days anyway. 2-3 opens and 2-3 duals to get to the 5. Opens are mostly a thing of the past.
I hope that’s not true. That’s how younger guys develop and gauge progress. It helps them make adjustments to their training, diet, weight cut, and preparation. It also does the exact same thing for veterans. The older guys don’t need to hit 5 tournaments but they still need a few.

Imagine the damage that lineup (minus two) could do in two years. o_O

7/10 is good start. Ramazan or Noonan at 133, Kraisser 157 (according to coach) and if a freshman goes at 174 it will be Rojas.

I think I’d rather have guys get experience in duals vs two opens. Two attached opens and then 3 D1 duals sounds pretty good. Plus they could still hit another open or 2 in 2nd semester unattached if they want.

I am hoping one of the opens they save the attachment for is the Southern Scuffle

I hope Noonan and Kraisser end up being sneaky good… if only someone in the room now days could fill us in on how they are looking.

While we’re talking about it, I think it’s worthwhile to mention that the impact for next year by the True freshman might be less impactful than we think. Minus maybe Swiderski as he seems to be a different animal.

Even David Carr redshirted…

Weight changes. What would be your ideal 10 weights and how would our roster look next year? My weight recommendation: 126, 133, 140, 147, 154, 162, 173, 188, 205, 285. I think these weights better align with the international weights and spread out some of the bigger guys. Kysen, Ramazan/Noonan, Swiderski, Paniro, Cam/Kraisser could Judge make 154?, Carr better fit at 162, MJ/Broderson/Rojas, Coleman, Yonger, Schuyler. Big ones would be 147 cut for Paniro and better fits for our guys at 154, 162, 173, 205.
