New WR coach?

Roy Williams from the Bears. Played for Texas. Can't catch a bal or get open, other than that he would be great.

Just in case you are the one whose wishes are answered you better include blocking just to be safe.

I actually thought our WRs did a decent job of blocking this year. It sprang us on a few big runs, but just to be on the safe side: I want a WR coach who can teach our receivers how to get open and catch as well as block.

I have it on good authority that Paul Rhoads will be contacting each of the previous posters in this thread individually to discuss his/her recommendation for WR coach. To the posters, your input is very important and may be critical to the making of a good selection, so please give Coach your best idea succintly so he might narrow his focus and make a selection quickly.

I love this guy. The guy who comes to the message board for only the news and keeps the internet serious business. Stop at the front page if you don't want opinions.

With the username yankmebruin I wouldn't count out him being a Rutgers troll.

Sounds fantastic!!! I will be waiting on his call. :psmile:

Maybe CPR should look into bringing Mike Grant back. I always thought he did a good job when he was here with Mac plus he seemed to be a pretty solid recruiter. Since then he spent some time coaching wide receivers at Western Michigan. Last year he went with Mac down to North Texas so he has probably developed some decent relationships with the local high school coaches.

Am I crazy or did hear of Flynn doing some GA work over the past few years? I may be mistaking it for his coaching stint at Grandview.

Isn't that the usual progression for players to get into coaching? Player to GA to Lower level position coach.

I think if he has taken the necessary steps he would be a good candidate and can give players some unique perspectives with his experience as a high level two position player. And relate to TX high school kids too!

Austin Flynn would get my vote and he coached in texas and now at Grand View !Would be great to have him back at ISU !But whatever Coach Rhoads decides works for me I trust his judgement ..

Would like to see Austin Flynn back.

Me too! One of my favorite Cyclones of all time. Came in as a highly regarded QB, which I still don't think he was given a fair shot because he never had any pass protection whatsoever, and was moved to WR and never complained one bit and did a great job at WR. The guy would have been great at almost any position they would have put him because he was a gamer.

I think this would be a great hire.... IF... he has demonstrated the ability to coach up WR's good enough. Just because you played WR doesn't always mean you would make a great WR coach IMO. You have to be able to coach it and teach it. You have to be able to get your ideas through to your players and make them execute it. If he can do that, he should be hired because not only is he a Cyclone great, he has connections to Texas with recruiting..... that would be HUGE.

Go Flynn. With Messingham getting the job, the new WR coach will likely take over Herman's recruiting area(Texas). We need a Texas guy to do that, and Flynn would be a good fit in that regard.

I don't know who else it'd be other than Flynn. Flynn now has some college coaching experience. Would be a perfect hire.

Flynn would be an awesome recruiter if he takes his cheerleader wife along.

But none of our current staff really have a connection to Flynn, so I'm not really sure that's an obvious pick.
