New Washer and Dryer Question

We are moving at the end of October and need to get a new washer and dryer. We had some fairly new Whirlpool Duet front load machines at our current house. My wife and I were not impressed with them and want to go to a top load washer because they seem to get clothes cleaner. We are thinking about going with a Speed Queen TC5 washer (old school build quality and a agitator in the middle) and matching dryer. These machines seem to be built like tanks and do a good job of cleaning. Does anyone have any experience with them?
 
My mom swears by speed queen. She’s bought many washers and dryers in her day and she likes them the best.

I just bought a speed queen dryer. It’s fine. It’s no frills for sure and I expect it to last for 20 years.

I’d be a little more leery of a no frills washer.
 
We got speed queens this summer. Be careful, they tear the **** out of clothes and our drain has a hard time keeping up with all the water they use.

Did you get the TR or TC? I know the TC has more aggressive agitation, but I like the idea of that.
 
Speedqueens are heavy duty and last forever.

We have a maytag top loader with agitator, was the largest top loading washing machine with the agitator at the time. No complaints the 4 years we've had it.

We use to have to LG top loader without the agitator, it couldn't clean soiled clothes completely. I'll never own another washing machine without the agitator.
 
We got a samsung front load when we moved into this house and I'm counting down the days before it finally dies to go back to a top load. The bearing has already gone out once (4 years in). That was thankfully replaced under extended warranty. Now it is shaking violently again after 2 years with the replacement parts.

It doesn't clean well and it smells unless you leave the door open when not in use.

I am more interested in hearing more opinions on the top load without agitator. We had several clothes and sheets stretched and torn by the agitator before, so I was hoping the top load without was going to be a solution.
 
We got a SpeedQueen washer a couple years ago now. I've never had to spend another minute on it and that's what I wanted. 1,000 x better than the Samsung POS it replaced. It is louder though if that's a concern. The Samsung dryer is still hanging in there barely.

I need to replace my 22 year old Kenmore washer and dryer soon and have been looking around. It seems like people are pretty split about agitators, but I'm leaning towards staying with one since I don't really have a great reason to change what's been working.

I have asked sales associates about Samsung washers and dryers at three different retailers, and they all said they received more returns and complaints about Samsung than everything else.
 
I hate front loading washers, will never buy one again after all the issues we had with our Whirlpool Duet. Numerous service calls and issues with it, finally just replaced it after it went out of warranty/service plan expired and had yet another issue with it. Even if you keep on top of cleaning the front loaders it's almost impossible from getting some mold and mildew buildup in the plastic liner by the door. We replaced our front loader with a Whirlpool Cabrio top loader and it has been great.
 
From what I understand the new top loaders are just as efficient and clean as well as front loaders. You can also get them with or without an agitator. I have had no problems with my whirlpool front loader fwiw. I leave my door open when not in use and haven't had any smell/mold. I thought everyone usually leaves the door open though.
 
The sales guy and my husband tried to convince me to get a Speed Queen and I stubbornly chose something else. I wish I had gone with Speed Queen. Don't be like me.

I'm 5 months into top load w/o agitator and it gets job done. Inherited with house, I think it's probably 10 years old but works fine.

Same bad experience with front load bearings, also had one that rocked bad.
 
Speed Queen keeps popping up as a good buy when I search for laundry appliances.
One thing I notice is that their capacity is lower than other brands. Looks like 3.2 cubic feet across the board for their main models.

Is that large enough to actually fit and wash large sheets, blankets, or quilts?

We left our door open when not in use and were diligent about running the washer cleaner you can buy and we still would get odors and build up in that plastic seal that just would not come off even with some scrubbing with vinegar.

We were mostly disappointed with what a crappy quality of product it was and seemed to have some design flaws as 1 of the repairs the service tech even mentioned the cause was a hose that was not routed well in the machine and was rubbing on the drum so eventually it wore through the hose and caused the malfunction. One thing after another seemed to go wrong with it and the frustrating part was it might take over a week for them to send someone out because you have to go through the warranty company your service contract is under then if they didn't have the part in stock you could be waiting several more days till they come back with it. It just got to the point we were tired of it never working right for long periods of time that we just replaced it the next time we had an issue with it and it was no longer covered under our warranty plan. Maybe we just got a lemon but the problems we had with it was enough for us to never want to try another front loader and have heard others share similar stories as ours too that feel the same.
 
I would say the only benefit to a front load washer is if you are limited on space or want to free up space, the dryer can be stacked on top of the washer.

I have a older Kenmore (top load) set that came with my house and have had zero issues. If/when I need to replace them I will likely go with speed queen.
