2018 was weird because of the weather-related cancellation of the game with South Dakota State. I count Iowa as "Game 1" as a result. That game eventually became the Drake near debacle.
This specific version of the "Cyclones" script is the ONLY one that should ever be used. It is embarrassing how many other cursive-like fonts have been used for this purpose. It honestly seems like we're opening up a blank Microsoft Word document, picking the first 'cursive' font we see, and using that. The bookstore is ordering hundreds of generic-ass Nike polos and DIY'ing on these cheesy Cyclone cursive script patches. So goddam cheap, so disappointing. Also sad to see we are apparently downgrading our contract with Nike, i.e. even schools like Iowa have the new 2023 'sideline' Nike gear (including the new polos, with high quality logo patches actually sewn on by Nike, and not DIY'd by random cheap t-shirt shop in Iowa). Always fun to be reminded of being little brother with "oh great, we don't get as nice of stuff as you."
I mostly agree. What makes you think we've downgraded our contract with Nike? We had the same gear on the sideline as everyone last year, and we have yet to play a game this year. The coaches seem to like the 'Ames' gear, but I wouldn't put much stock into what they're wearing at practice. Unless you're talking about gear available to fans?
The cursive script is so bad. Especially on the black and white hats. It almost literally can't get more bland than those hats.
This is still one of my favorites, If not overall favorite. I love the script Cyclones helmet.
The current Bucky Badger Cy mascot logo, that is just a generic logo, that is copied and changed for many schools is horrible. It is worse than the poop logo. We should burn anything with that logo, and remove it from any history.
Yeah walking cy should really be our mascot logo even if the mascots/logo don’t really match completely.
I still have the Iowa state vs Creighton basketball shirt from Hoiberg’s first year coaching. I remember how wimpy their mascot looks though.
It's like they yelled at the admin assistant on the way out the door, "Hey Barb, can you do 'Cyclones' in a cursive font or something and send it to the embroidery department? I'm going to play golf with Phil."
Yeah, no effort in that at all. And it shows.
We already have it in the 'vault'. The late '80's-'90's cursive CYCLONES (ON THE CURVE) is GOLD, and is perfect. They just had the colors too bright back then. Easy fix.

Nike did these for a lot of teams - they all used the same font - they were not meant to evoke the late-80s/early 90s helmets
Probably not - at the beginning of the season they do all the promo pics that are used in marketing & stuff & most every year for the past few years they've worn CCW for the promo pics
