New Uniforms Revealed

Not sure what this thread has turned into, but the ISU gear Nike puts out is flat out depressing. I recently moved to Kansas City, and the throwback KSU gear made by Nis blows any ISU Nike merch out of the water. No idea why they can’t put something together like that for Iowa State because there are some solid throwback logos out there.

I did my masters at NC State, which is an adidas school. I actually prefer it. The gear is so much more affordable. And NC States new uniforms are really nice. Plus there are less adidas schools, so they can spend more time on a tailored uniform design. We have the most basic of basic Nike FB uniforms (except the swirly font, which sucks by the way(
Adidas is always high quality. Somehow we let a bunch of teenage basketball players convince everyone that everything had to be Nike. I love Nike, but Adidas is good stuff.

Can’t really put my finger on why but I would prefer UA over adidas. I feel like adidas unis just look goofy sometimes
Oh my god, we couldn't disagree more in this thread. Adidas is sharp and quality. Under Armour's quality is ok, but their designs are awful, and their logo is outdated and designed for the aesthetic palate of a 10 year old.

that gear is out there. I see coaches and players wearing it, but for whatever reason they don’t put it out for the public. Probably has to do with Nikes market research.

Just wait. Charlie hustle founded in KC is releasing more Iowa state stuff this fall and they teased an Ames jacket.

Well said. It is so goddamn embarrassing.

I am quite worried. Went to the bookstore last week and then Scheel's yesterday. The Nike gear right now is total crap, maybe as bad as it has ever been. Makes me wonder if Iowa State is willingly distancing itself from Nike in some weird way. Any time you see a generic 'red' or 'dark red' (or hell, white or black) Nike polo and the I-State patch is clearly sewed on by someone after-market - you know that is a cheap ass low quality. So very disappointing to see so much cheap Nike stuff with poorly quality sewed on logos. Oh, and the black and white polos with the cursive 'Cyclones' - those are not legit quality. Those are generic cheap polos where we sewed on a random cursive 'Cyclones' script. I have not seen anything 'new' from Nike either. Even the Nike hats are getting to be lesser and lesser quality.

And worse yet, the colors and fonts are disjointed as ever. Of course there was tons of Under Armour crap at the bookstore, with all sorts of different shades of red. Champion shirts and sweatpants that look like we stole them from the shelves at Walmart. They are selling generic Jack Trice logo T-Shirts with the word 'Iowa State' at the bottom in a dorky block font. Why!? Why cannot we use the same I-State font everywhere!? Is it really that goddamn hard?

And to clarify - I do not blame Nike - I blame whoever the decision makers are within the Iowa State athletic department that are allowing this to happen. I will puke if we become an Under Armour or Adidas school.
I have been saying this for years. I've been traveling to numerous college stadiums over the years to mark them slowly off the FBS list, and the vast majority of them have far better clothing options than ISU. And I haven't even been going to the "good" schools. Schools like Buffalo, Central MI, and even Eastern MI have better clothing quality than ISU. Its absolutely pathetic the **** our bookstore sells in comparison to others.

The problem with UA is their footwear.

UNI was considering the switch last spring but they were blowing out 10 pair of cleats in every practice. Resigned with Nike almost immediately after sprig ball was over.

I personally like Nike the most for athletic gear, but I do agree I would be open for Iowa State to look around since at this point, I don't see ISU ever getting anything out of the Nike partnership out of the occasional bland template that 70% of the nike schools use. However, I can't speak on football I would argue that adidas is guilty if not responsible for the laziness of basketball templates. Though at this point every uniform company is guilty of this. I hope if CTJO can take us to new heights and CMC gets football back we can attract a better apparel partnership.

I'm still upset that we had a chance to create or bring back a good tornado logo and we went with a Microsoft clip art design. I wonder how much Iowa State paid someone to create this. I wish there was someone in the reveal meeting that said would've said something to the effect of, "No, that's terrible, start over."
If memory serves me correct, ISU paid an outrageous $800,000 for someone or some company to create that hideous logo. It’s an all time embarrassing moment for ISU athletics and at least one person should have been fired for approving it.

I mean it was MJ choosing Nike over Converse 40 years ago that really made the difference. The closest Adidas has come in basketball was with Tracy McGrady. Other sports, soccer in particular, Adidas is king.

I'll second both those brands..when I look at all my ISU gear, I realize I barely have anything with "I STATE" on it lol
Same. I feel as if Nike/Other apparel company creates a shirt that says "Iowa State", or "Cyclones". Shirt would be great with just the script. Then Iowa State slaps on the beveled logo and it looks completely out of place/makes the shirt too busy.

The bookstore is garbage. Cy’s Locker Room has some high quality Nike gear. At least they did this winter.

We do need a rebrand badly though. I’d love for us to showcase that with new uniforms and designs across the board as well as us actually using our throwbacks. Stop throwing sticker logos on social media posts, stop hinting at doing something cool then throwing it on a warm ups.

Have a damn plan, put it on some uniforms and helmets, and then place them on gear to mass produce to the fans.

Agreed. It's weird, some years the Bookstore will have good stuff, then other years it feels like you're shopping for ISU apparel at Hy-Vee.

My issue isn't that they need more Nike stuff, it's that they need simplified designs across the board. I think that's what makes Charlie Hustle, Homage, and Homefield apparel so much better. Part of this is likely the need of a re-brand you mentioned in your subsequent post. Not to rag on the bookstore, they do have good items, buy very limited in selection.
