New Uniforms Revealed

To give a little insight, the helmets were painted with locally available paint applied in the equipment room. I doubt they were too worried about matching any color code. Today any paint color can be formulated to match anything.
The 49 gold was adopted in 1964.
September 21, 1963, ISU played Cal.
SF called ISU and inquired about the colors our uniforms were.
Any more questions
GoldCy: I’m not asking “how do you know this” because I am doubting you, generally curious.

How do you know this? I appreciate this level of detail regarding history of Iowa State athletics.

The only thing that should color wise change is the helmet color. Why is the red on the helmet a darker shade of red than the red on the jerseys? It looks a little silly. It’s why I prefer when we wear white helmets.
The helmets are correct and the coolest part of our current home uniforms. The cardinal helmet with the big I-State and cardinal facemask is really sharp.

You prefer the old one wearing clunky boots? The one I posted uses the head from McCarney’s blender bird.
I do. But I think moreso it reminds of this one which is, in my opinion, the worst one ever created.

Honestly, the Orr-era tornado is still one of the best representations of an actual cyclone out there. It just needs a bit of updating like the Kagavi version to make it a bit more modern.

I don't know why it would need updated. I hate when teams try to modernize a classic look. It rarely works.

The yellow/gold/whatever of the late 70s is the proper color for ISU. The color of that helmet. The key is to get more white in the uniform, especially the home uniform. That breaks up the ketchup/mustard trope and looks a hell of a lot better.

Lazard needs an apology letter. But it is more attractive than those ugly packer uni’s he is forced to wear now.

I just stumbled on this tweet about BYU's new helmets that illustrates the satin finish vs gloss finish. A Cardinal lid with the satin finish could look really good. With the caveat that we use the 2-color or stencil logo.

I wonder if BYU is going with both of these helmets? They seem so similar. One a satin with no stripe, the other a gloss with stripe, same logo. Quite an expense for "two" very similar helmets.

Other than that, if you could only choose one, I'd prefer a semi-gloss, something between the satin and gloss. The satin is a pretty good look though.
