New Uniforms Revealed

When I first watched a telecast of a Boise State Smurf field game, I kept trying to adjust the tv colors. Something about it actually hurts my eyes... ;)
It's unnatural. Green is in our DNA for grass and football fields! Otherwise it seems like Pandora from Avatar, or something.

Sticking with what works...

No monochome looks yet this year. As I've said before W/W/W is may favorite away combo and possibly favorite overall. The various W/C combos have been solid, missing W/W/C, W/C/C out of the options.
This is the only road combo you will see if we keep winning road games.
I was thinking the same. Campbell is a bit superstitious it seems (don't know for sure of course). I think we ride the c/w/c until we lose in it. Knock on wood/my head.

I would be OK with that.
Me two. Though I like the all white and w/w/c quite a bit.

Used your concept per my son's suggestion. I think it really pops here.
That's really nice! Good job!

And I won't take credit for the 'concept', although I like my mod probably better than the original. Both are good.

Could you take another pic of it straight on, a little farther away from your downspout? I might want to get a copy of that. Thanks.

Two things:

1. Despite the outcome of the Morgantown Screwjob yesterday, the uniform match-up was spectacular. When ISU announced they were wearing C/W/C, I was hoping that WVU would wear N/N/G. They did & it did not disappoint.

2. I'm fairly new the forum. I've mostly been a lurker for a few years. I was just thinking this must be one of, if not, the longest threads ever. My friends make fun of me for how much I love talking about "football costumes"...

I have a feeling this thread will probably last thru the Matt Campbell tenure now. I hope that is a little (or a lot) longer.

Definitely was a good "uniform matchup." I thought of that immediately when I saw wvu combo (already knew we were doing c-w-c). Bummer the game result was less -dazzling.

For the love of god, give me this throwback once a year. I don't think that's asking too much.
Granted, I'm biased because these were the team uni's when I was in school, but this is one of the best looks we've had. This is when we got the "cardinal red and gold" colors right.
I think this pic is either 1975 or 76/77, (or a retro of that time)(has the '79 pants though, interesting). We had that gold from 1968-82. After that, with Criner our gold became brighter, the same/similar yellow-mustard we have now I believe. Our cardinal was also darker before 1973 and after 2007. In between that time our cardinal was a shade brighter I believe. I could be wrong on some or all of this but I think I'm pretty close.

Here are some pics over the years, although maybe not the most accurate color-wise:

And some jersey history:
Iowa State Football Jersey Collection (cyclonejerseys.com)

Anyway the darker gold from '68-'82. The Stapleton era gold (pre-'68) was even darker.

IMO - last night's game is the type of game that the black uniforms should be worn in & surprising us with them was great

Reasons: night game, sell out crowd, against Texas (in their traditional all-white away uniform)

I would propose some rules for black uniforms going forward (which I know are meaningless, but I'm a nerd):

1. All black, no more white pants or helmets (I do think all the black/white combos look great, but I think we adopted black for a reason & adding white elements takes away for that "stormy" aesthetic)

2. Only night games

3. Only home games (unlikely we would ever have the opportunity to wear them away, but just putting this out there)

4. Keep it at one or two games in a season, make it count

5. Make them black-out games - Penn State has white-outs, let's have black-outs - ask fans to wear black (I'm kinda curious how this would look on television... may not look great... )

What do y'all think?

Jack Trice Stadium under the lights with everyone wearing black would be sick. Too bad half our fan base thinks doing fun things is stupid and wouldn't participate

I think if half the home crowd wore black and nearly half wore cardinal, that would look even better! Then add the team wearing the all-black, perfect.

This was posted in a new uniform thread earlier, thought I'd add here since it's customary for this thread.

Update -- I had seen the cardinal-rush post on Twitter when I posted this, didn't realize until I got to the game Saturday it had changed to black-out. I hadn't been online much toward end of week, so it must have been switcheroo-decision?

Hoping to see W-W-W and R-R-R this year at some point

I don't think this stencil helmet exists any more but that would be sick, too

LOOK: Iowa State debuting impressive new secondary logo on ...
