New Uniforms Revealed

Imagine the conniptions that would occur when, under your proposed scenario, parts of the top gold layer chip off during a game to reveal black. Or vice versa.
LOL. Yeah. that's why I knew the brighter yellow gold would never work (with a gold/black spray painted helmet). I thought perhaps a darker gold/black combo might work, less obvious with chipping. Now after hearing from cyfanatic13, neither option would be good.

It was just a passing idea. Like many of my past ideas, another fail.

This is why I am, for now, holding on to us keeping just 3 helmets. Adding a 4th would be very expensive at a time when we likely can not nor should not try to afford it.

The red chrome helmets were donated by the Gridiron Club if I remember correctly. If there was a 4th helmet the money is probably not coming out of the athletic department.

The idea of 'Notre Dame' made me think of the spray painting option. I think that's the way they might have done their helmets many years ago before modern helmets, acrylics, etc.

As for the Irish, I believe they went through several iterations of "gold". I'm pretty sure up until their current helmets, the helmets were painted gold, then sprayed with actual gold.

There was a cool video I'll try to find of them creating the current helmets which have a base layer of actual gold and are then covered with a clear coat.

Here's an article on the Irish's helmets.

Someone tell me there is not money somewhere for a red helmet with a walking cy on it. That thing would be an instant hit.

Definitely would be a good look. I doubt we get anything new this year, but am hoping we see a new helmet or jersey later this season.

anybody done any mocks for walking cy on blk helmet with white or cardinal outline or white helmet with black outline...we have to be able to sell the idea to CMC lol

I think it'd be awesome. Kinda like a grass-stain badge of honor.

Added bonus is that you could really tell who's leading with their head, making targetting calls easier. :jimlad:

Hijack question: do they wear the same jersey through the year or do they have new ones each game? What’s the average “life” of a jersey?
Most, if not all wear the same one all year. I guess I’m not even totally sure if anyone ever needed a new one but I’m sure it happened. I do know certain players had backup jerseys and helmets on the sideline in case theirs ripped or broke during the game. Don’t think it ever happened to my knowledge but I admittedly don’t remember everything

Very interesting article. Thanks for posting! Sounds like ND went thru a lot of weekly work to paint their helmets.

Now that they are no longer painting their helmets, I found this interesting:
"The 2018 season represents more change, on multiple levels. About half the Irish players will continue to wear the Hydro Graphic version — with an updated color and paint process — while a significant number will now wear a helmet made by Vicis. Grooms left his role as Irish equipment manager (to be replaced by Bacsik) after the Citrus Bowl victory to become the Midwest vice president and sales representative for that Seattle-based company. The Vicis helmet is engineered to both absorb and deflect contact as well or better than any other product on the market. It represents the latest major commitment to Notre Dame player safety.

Says Bacsik, “Last year there were three players who wore the Vicis helmet in games — this year it’s up to 52 players. We will be among the programs with the most players wearing Vicis."

I know the better, Vicis helmets are much more expensive. I wonder how many ISU players are wearing the Vicis helmets?

Our high school wraps the entire helmet. Granted they just have speed flex and non of the f7s or vicis helmets. Always blows my mind they wrap the whole base and then add the stickers here
