The black collar is gone, so could look a little cleaner

By the looks of the video, we did not show the front of the helmet, which sort of leads me to believe we're going to rock a white face mask. Just speculating, but I think it'd look pretty good without the black collar.

Hard to believe that they'd do that with the black chinstrap.

At least we are getting maybe our worst look out of the way against a 1-AA team.
Yeah, no. This is a good solid look suitable for the first game of the season, regardless of opponent. School colors up top, with white below reflecting the warm weather.

Classic appeal. Get the crowd fired up with Iowa State pride.

Nope.

There is no white in the helmet or jersey and no cardinal or gold on the pants to tie them together. These look like mismatches from different sets, which indeed they are.

The individual elements might be fine here, but they just do not work together.

Say what you want about the Rhoads-era uniforms, but they mixed and matched well between different combinations. The current set is much weaker in that regard.

Wait what? They just got new ones a few years ago.
I remember wearing the same ones from the 90s when I was in band.

The whirlybird set (white over red) lasted from '96 until 2010, IIRC, with the all-red debuting in 2011.

Newsflash for you. White is neutral. They don’t have to be tied together. Do you know nothing about fashion whatsoever?

Saying an entire uniform element is “neutral” or, synonymously, “bland,” doesn’t say much good about that element, does it?
