I think they are already something in between. Not chrome but not as shiny as the regular cardinal either.

Give me the all blacks this week with the above black helmet, but instead of the Riddell tag, put the CYCLONES one from the white helmet on there, and then a red chrome stencil logo on the side of the helmet.

It could be the black helmets aren't actually painted but are produced from black plastic, the same way the Packers' helmets aren't painted yellow but are actually yellow plastic.
