New Uniforms Revealed

The more I see these new uniforms, the less I like them. Is it even feasible to get a re-do for next year?

They are just a mess. First off, when your school colors are cardinal and gold, then in this day and age, at a bare minimum you should have cardinal helmets, jerseys, and pants... and gold helmets, jerseys, and pants, and white helmets, jerseys, and pants. Then.... if your head coach would like an alternate (like black) too, then so be it.

We have a fellow Cyclone young lady who lost her life sadly this week, and her favorite color was one of our two primary colors, and we can't even wear a helmet, jersey, or pant in that color to honor her. That is pathetic IMO. But hey.... we have a black helmet, a black jersey, and black pants!!

Our white pants and red pants don't even tie in with any of our jerseys now either. There's no red or gold in our white pants we'll be wearing tomorrow to go with the red and gold in our jersey. And no white at all in our jersey to go with the white pants either.

And finally, I'm sure these new jerseys and pants are of the highest quality, but they sure do look cheaper than the jerseys we had last year.

Since no gold pants, I think cardinal or black pants are better than white. Also maybe black jerseys with cardinal pants. Does anyone know what CMC has against Cardinal and Gold colors?

Cardinal apparently he likes. Gold, apparently not.

Mac didn't use much gold, either, other than jersey numerals, in the first-wave before the redesign in '03 -- and then, it was white with some gold accent. Pants were always cardinal or white.

I get that feeling, too, they were designed mainly for montone use.

I think the CWC vs. Iowa looked awesome, so that mix-and-match is fine, but it works because the numerals are cardinal and it ties into the look. WCW probably works too, but we haven't seen it yet so it's hard to tell.

As others suggested, not having gold pants or at least gold/cardinal on the pants, even a single-stripe in some form, makes it difficult to use anything but all-cardinal, all-white or CWC. And I don't think the black will look good with anything but all-black except maybe BCB, since there's a black collar on the jersey.

There could be an additional set designed as part of the package next season that does have gold pants and (we can hope) gold helmet. Why not have options that include one of our main school colors?
 
I have three complaints about this set...

(1.) They are just rather plain. I thought I would complain for them being too busy or gimmicky, but these are just plain boring and not uniquely Iowa State.

I love our current basketball uniforms -- they have a funnel cloud on them!

How much more Cyclone does it get than that...?

(2.) The black collar on the cardinal jerseys, which could work as a way to tie the cardinal jersey to the black elements, is trying to "have it both ways" in not including black on anything else and not including any cardinal or gold on the black set anywhere.

One way or the other -- either the blacks are standalone, or you need to include color elements between your different main colors so you can mix-and-match them.

The white pants with the cardinal/gold jersey is going to be a great example of that.

Either design them and wear them separate or design them to link together with shared features and colors. Say what you will about our old set plus the gray jerseys, but they worked for doing that rather well the past two years. This set is not nearly as good for that.

(3.) The lack of gold elements is inexcusable. I think this current set would look great, maybe one of our best of all time, with G-C-G or C-C-G.

If they added a gold option we would be set. We have suited up for 4 games and haven't seen the black set yet. I know some dislike it that we have them, but so far it seems to be a special day/uniform. We aren't mixing it in on a regular basis. I hope they add the gold set next year or maybe its hidden away and meant to be a surprise. The GCG is a great look for us IMO

Yes, this leaves a lot to be desired. Even worse with the all white Akron around (this picture takes that out for simplicity). Either add something to the pants, or keep them separate, or do this only with white helmets, but room for improvement for sure. Got the win, but don't decide that makes this the lucky set, coach!

We're hardly ever going to wear black, so don't put it on your cardinal jersey just in case we decide to wear black once a year with the cardinal, because it ruins all your other options.

The white pants look like practice pants or something REALLY cheap with nothing on them. Ugly.

And we need yellow as an option for helmets, jerseys, and pants.... period. Mizzou wore all yellow yesterday and it looked cool IMO. Last night Arizona St wore yellow helmets with white jersey and pants, and that looked cool too IMO.

This is a good example of how bad these pants are that we've went with this year. There is absolutely nothing to tie those pants into the rest of the uniform at all. Did we just go to the local Sporting Goods Store and buy some plain white football pants off the shelf?
