New Uniforms Revealed

I really like most of the designs I see on here. Makes me remember my days at school. We knew some girls at the school of design, for 60 bucks they take your jeans, and cut them up and sew Cyclone stuff into bad ass patchwork designs. We wore them to Hilton, when the Alley was just a baby. Great memories.

I like all three uniforms, but I think the cardinal one has the least pop. This should be the flag ship uniform, so I was hoping for a little more. I am not a senior citizen, but I hope there is a gold alternative too. I am probably in the minority, but I really liked the Grey Storm uniforms; especially when jersey and pants were worn together.

Quick notes (or as briefly as I'm capable). Some of this overlaps with previous comments.

* A few details to nitpick (or elements I would've done differently) but they're mostly minor/secondary.
* Considering the lead-up period to the reveal, coupled with reaction to the leaked photo before I was able to view it, I was prepared for disappointment. I'm pleasantly surprised (partly "relieved," too).
* Regarding black/gray: (1) Although it includes neither of the current school colors, it'll be identifiable because the template is consistent through the entire package (at least examples we've seen). I think it works by not attempting to shoehorn cardinal or gold into a grayscale look. (We might see C/G used w/ black eventually, but that's a separate topic.)
* Black/gray (2): Uniqueness. Few FBS teams could use that as the standard uniform using actual school colors -- Army and Colorado can, those are the only ones that come to mind (correct me if I'm omitting others). For alts, Oregon obviously would do it (or probably has applied it in some form).

Solid summary. A few excerpts I like:

“As long as they don’t try anything wacky like a black helmet-cardinal jersey-white pants combination, Iowa State will look fine.” I agree. Be cautious with customizing the black alternate.

“This could be a sign of things to come when it comes to college football uniform design in general — a move to simpler uniforms, but more options when it comes to each part of the uniform.” It’s possible ISU’s design can strike a good balance to achieve that. Then again, you could argue Oregon’s redesign in the ‘90s began with a similar approach, eventually opened the door to anything-goes.

I got weary of the "ISU is copying USC" thing, although it wasn't completely invalid. But this is a creative twist: "Since 2008, Iowa State has worn uniforms that could be described as what would happen if the USC Trojans and the LSU Tigers decided to create their own offspring."

It is just me or are the "black" jerseys actually a dark shade of grey with light grey and white while the helmet is black. I think that they will look totally different in person or on TV then they do in the photos released. I am hoping that they have these jerseys to view at the fan fest in August.

Everyone keeps bemoaning the fact that there are no gold options. We don't know that yet. Perhaps there won't be - or perhaps the AD didn't reveal everything yesterday.

I think they'll have all gold everything to mix in the uniform combos sometime in the future. Maybe next year.

Picture this, the all blacks with the Chrome Red Liberty bowl helmet with black Orrnado decal. Straight Fire. Add Red Shoes and Gloves and you have a fresh aggressive look that is uniquely ISU.

Not exactly...
