Love the look but I'm always bugged when the teams have the same colored helmets. I don't know why I care.
Me too! For that reason I guessed Cardinal-White-Cardinal. I suppose we have to assume Purdy will figure it out!

This was also the combo from the 2017 Oklahoma upset - maybe it is now (since we assigning all sorts of motives and superstitions to him) Coach Campbell's "Road Upset Special"

That’s USC.

Never seen USC wearing cardinal pants.

The shoulder stripes on our uniforms from last year (and in many other past ISU uniform styles) is known as UCLA piping. Resemblance to USC is bound to happen, since we have the same colors.

Bingo winner.

The USC comparisons are overblown.

Our uniforms are less similar to USC than are Iowa's uniforms to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Campbell is a superstitious man.

I hope the streak of big road wins in white-white-cardinal can continue!

This is true- that piping is also known as "Varsity Stripes" . It is a good look and nothing like USC other than colors.

I didn't know they were known as "Varsity Stripes" as well. Thanks for that info. I love the look of this style of stripes/piping.

Thats not saying much... they are literally the same uniform. I dont know if its the homer in me but as i get older the more i think those uniforms make Iowa look like a high school football team just ordering the easily available pre-stocked uniforms and putting their logo on it. I think it looks amateur-ish.

I'm actually surprised i dont hear more TOE fans want to change up their uniform more often. You could do some pretty sweet combinations with their colors and their program doesn't need to look like the steelers to represent a "winning culture" like they did at the start of the Fry Era. i felt the same about our old uni's looking like USC... its just lame.

At this point in time I think Hok fans think the Steelers ripped off Iowa.

I love this combo, but since Texas wears white helmets, I wouldn't really like this if I were a QB in this game.

I'd also prefer the cardinal facemask with the white helmet for this game too.

Purdy has yet to wear any type of cardinal helmet in a game that he gets meaningful minutes. The last time Iowa State wore their base cardinal helmet was the Akron game and the last time they wore the chrome cardinal helmet was the TCU game.

Qbs know the routes that the receivers are running and read those areas. They aren't randomly looking for a helmet somewhere. If they scramble, they will be throwing at chest height (jerseys) and not head height so the helmet color won't throw him off.
